CBU Summer 2024 Tryouts Standouts Part 2

From December January 5th-7th, CBU held their Summer 2024 Tryouts which took place at the 5-Plex Complex in Fort Myers, FL. Over the three-day stretch players went through a pro-style workout, additional batting practice, and live game action (with bullpens occurring earlier in the week) With close to 400 players in attendance ranging from the 2025-2028 classes, there was plenty of talent all over the field.

2025 RHP/OF Landon Ludwig (Benedictine Military School, GA)

Davidson commit. Lean, athletic frame. Fast arm and generated lots of swings and misses during game action. Featured a fastball up to 90 mph with life while mostly sitting 86-89. Also mixed in a 72-74 mph curveball with depth and a 75-76 mph changeup. Big arm from the outfield too where he topped out at 95 mph on his throws. 

2025 IF Justin Mercado (Everglades HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic frame with present physicality standing at 6-foot, 170 pounds. Really stood out offensively as he put together two impressive rounds of batting practice, hitting everything hard and staying smooth through his swing from the left side. Present pop as well. This translated into game action when he roped a ball into the right-center field gap for an RBI single.

2025 MIF JT Huether (Canterbury HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds on a projectable, athletic frame. From the right side of the plate he laced the ball all over the field while showing present juice to the pull side. Hands are quick, loose through the zone. Above average arm with accuracy across the diamond, topping out at 87 mph. Still room to add strength which will result in jumps to his overall game. Strong follow.

2026 LHP Mason McGeehan (Cypress Bay HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 185 pounds with a stronger lower half. Continues to trend upward on the mound. During game action he struck out multiple batters in his inning of work. Mostly sat 85-87 mph with his fastball with run while mixing in a 70-72 mph curveball with tight spin and a 79-80 mph changeup with fade. Throws his full arsenal for strikes. Strong follow.

2026 C Kaine Ellis (Hernando HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 172 pounds on a frame that will continue to add strength. Above average defender with a strong arm which showed during game action, throwing out multiple base runners. Sticks pitches, works from an athletic position. Offensively he displayed a very smooth left-handed swing with consistency through the zone. Drove the ball back up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice. 

2026 OF/LHP Raymond Llanes (Alonso HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 140 pounds on a lean frame with present athleticism. Took an impressive couple rounds of batting practice as he hammered the ball deep into right, right-center field multiple times. Impacts the ball out in front and really drives it. During game action he jumped on the first pitch he saw and drove a ball down the right field line, staying aggressive with a hard turn at 1B to turn it into a double. Also topped out at 84 mph from the outfield on his throws. 

2026 MIF Kobe Carrion (Doral Academy, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic frame that currently stands at 5-foot-10, 145 pounds. Heads up player who seems to always make an impact somewhere on the field. Takes a smart at-bat from the right side, displaying above average bat speed. Line drive hitter into the gaps. Aggressive base runner, consistently gets good jumps on the base paths. Confident defender up the middle with accurate throws across the diamond. Strong follow.

2026 1B Jasper Davis (Port Charlotte HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Tall 6-foot-6, 255 pound frame with present strength throughout. Big time power potential from the left side of the plate as he sent some moonshots to the right field wall during his batting practice rounds. The ball explodes off the bat when he barrels it up. Suited to be a heart of the order hitter who can change the game with one swing. Strong follow.

2026 IF Jonathan Esponda (Mater Academy Charter, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds on a physical frame. Simple approach offensively from the right side as he produced multiple line drives back up the middle, into left-center field during his batting practice rounds. Stays quick and direct to the ball, present feel for the barrel. Above average arm that topped out at 88 mph across the diamond. 

2026 C Toby Highsmith (Strawberry Crest HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean, athletic frame standing at 5-foot-9, 140 pounds with room to still fill out. During game action he put on an impressive showing behind the plate as he threw out three base runners in an inning. Quick release with an above average arm. Offensively from the right side the hands get to the baseball in rhythm and are able to generate power to all parts of the field. 

2026 OF Aiden Cameron (Sebastian River HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 160 pounds on an athletic frame with room to become more physical. Showed real offensive potential from the left side as he displayed fast hands, drove the ball with intent to the pull side. Also showed the ability to sit back and go the other way as well. Look for jumps in power to come. 

2027 OF Trace Zalman (Chaminade Madonna, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with present athleticism. A name that needs to be put high atop for the class 2027 follow lists. Simple approach offensively from the right side as he produced lots of hard line drives all over the field during batting practice. Stays balanced and trusts his hands, bat speed to drive the baseball. Already an above average runner who clocked in at 6.57 secs for his 60 yard dash time. Also topped out at 84 mph from right field during defensive drills. 

2027 C/RHP Julian Rodriguez (North Broward Prep, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 175 pounds with a strong lower half. From the right side of the plate he displayed above average bat speed, ability to drive the ball back up the middle with intent during batting practice. Some present pop. Up to 84 mph on the mound and had strong, accurate throws from behind the plate as well. Strong follow.

2027 IF Roman Garcia (Key West HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds that immediately stands out with his present physicality. Swings with intent from the right side and impacts the ball with loud, hard contact. Simple approach that finds the barrel. This translated to game action when he sent one the other way for a base hit. 

2028 IF/RHP Mason Warren (Berkeley Prep, FL)

Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with present strength and athleticism. Shows above average instincts. Young player that shows real upside with his overall game, most notably offensively. During game action he crushed a ball deep to left-center field for a run scoring hit. Strong follow moving forward.
