Standouts (Part 1 of 2)
By: Mike Maerz and Anthony Zurita
Mike’s First Group
2027 RHP/IF Samir Foster (Jesuit HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Big, physical frame (notably in the lower half) and displays a fast, strong arm. Featured a fastball with easy velocity at 92-94 mph with life and 2200+ RPM. Mixed in a nasty slider with depth at 80-81 mph and an 82-83 mph changeup. The ball really jumps out of his hand with still more in there. Regarded as one of the top arms in his class nationally. Showed present power during batting practice where he produced deep drives into left, left-center field. Topped out at 90 mph on his throws across the diamond.
2027 RHP Matthew Werner (A3 Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Big projection with a tall, long frame. Threw an impressive bullpen where he pounded the strike zone. Loose, quick arm and featured a fastball that consistently sat 90-92 mph. Mixed in a low to mid 70s breaking ball with 2400+ RPM that showed depth, shape along with an 80-83 mph changeup. Another arm that still has more in there, secondary stuff will only get better.
2028 OF/RHP Oliver Dugan (Lake Highland Prep, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic frame that continues to become more physical. Loose, fast hands from the right side of the plate with a present feel for the barrel that allows him to drive the ball gap-to-gap for hard line drives. More power to come as well. Topped out at 90 mph on his throws from the outfield. On the mound the arm is quick and features a fastball up to 85 mph with life. Utilizes his lower half throughout his delivery. Mixed in both a curveball with depth and a changeup in the low 70s. Seen in game action with multiple swings and misses.
2028 MIF/RHP Zach Guerrero (Alonso HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Above average bat speed from the right side which resulted in multiple line drives back up the middle, to the pull side. Still more power to unlock. Ranges freely to his left and right up the middle defensively with accurate throws across the diamond, topping out at 81 mph. Worked in the upper 70s with his fastball with more to come mixed in a changeup and curveball that stayed in the zone at the lower 70s. Strong swing and miss potential.
2028 C Devontae Raiti (Dunedin HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Present physicality, especially in the lower half. Offensively he demonstrated fast, strong hands through the zone that allowed him to create loud, hard contact. Plenty of line drives back up the middle and to the pull side. This translated to game action with a base hit that was ripped into center field. Still more power to come, especially as he utilizes his lower half more. Above average arm from behind the plate with accurate throws to the bag with a best pop time of 2.19 seconds.

2027 RHP/MIF Dylan Sorensen (Lakewood Ranch HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic and mobile build that got after it all weekend long. In his bullpen he showcased a fastball in the low 80s with an off-speed in the low 70s. Showed consistent mechanics with power in his lower half. During the live games he picked up several strikeouts to go along his scoreless outing. At the plate he picked up multiple hits in live game action, upper/lower half transcended well. Line-drive ability with speed in his toolset as he hit an inside the park home run. Strong follow for this spring/summer season.
2026 C/1B Dylan Kolsen (Steinbrenner HS, FL)
Uncommitted. A strong compact frame that brings a power bat from the left side. Great ability to keep weight on the back side with free range of motion throughout his swing. Consistency in barrel path with ability to get any pitch. Behind the plate he possesses a smooth transfer with an athletic arm. Receives well with good blocking mechanics. Keep an eye out for him this year.
2026 OF/1B/RHP Jack Grzanka (Cypress Creek HS, FL)
Uncommitted. One of the more standout swings from the left side all weekend. Easy simple swing that creates consistent lift to each part of the field. Went through his BP rounds with a quick toe tap that lets the backside provide power to each swing. Defensively in the outfield, he stays down on the ball and uses whole body on his throws to each bag with precision. All around physical build that is trending upwards.
2027 C/RHP Alex Byrd (Lake Wales HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Strong arm on the mound that impressed on Friday with a fluent arm motion. Fastball looked live sitting at 80 mixed with off speed in high 60s, low 70s. Solid foundation of mechanics with a good follow through. Offensively in the box he can provide a force of contact and power at a line drive ability. Great shift of weight with a slight leg kick that stays on plane. A lot to like from this young talent.
2027 1B/LHP Gavin Shefsky (Cypress Creek HS, FL)
Uncommitted. A tall physical build that can hit for power and pitch at an impressive level. Offensively his stance provides a balance of good posture of the shoulders mixed with consistent mechanics within his upper/lower half. Showcased a swing that hit gap to gap with lift. On the mound he featured a fastball that touched 80 with a changeup and curveball which had zone presence. Athleticism is there all around and is only going to get better.
