Top Tier Roos/Kangaroo Court Roos Class of 2022 Tryouts Standouts
This past weekend, the Top Tier Roos and Kangaroo Court Roos held their 2020 Team Tryouts which included over 100 players from the 2021-2024 classes. Players took batting practice at the Courthouse Performance Center on Friday night and then went through a pro-style workout on Saturday followed by games on Sunday at Carrollwood Day School.
There were numerous players in each class that stood out among our staff over the weekend so over the next several days we will be breaking down the standouts by grad class. Tonight, we continue with the 2022 class:
MIF/RHP Landon Russell (Russell County HS, AL)
Uncommitted. Had one of the strongest overall weekends. Offensively, he displayed explosive bat speed through the zone with intent, registering 95-98 mph exit velocity readings. Ball really jumps off the bat. Also ran one of the fastest 60 yard dash times on the day, clocking in at 6.72 seconds. Defensively, he shows smooth, athletic actions with an above average arm across the diamond, topping out at 90 mph. Also topped out at 91 mph from the outfield on his throws to home. Drove a ball the other way for a single to right field. Hopped on the mound for relief work, running his fastball up to 89 mph, mostly sat 85-88. Very high follow moving forward.
IF/RHP Sam Cole (Alonso HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds with a strong lower half. Created loud, hard contact during batting practice. Topped out at 84 mph on his throws from third during defensive drills. Also been in the mid 80s on the mound.
OF/RHP Evan Cuervo (Steinbrenner HS, FL)
Tall, long athletic frame standing at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds. Drives the ball with intent to the pull side. Balanced approach with strong hands through the zone from the left side. Topped out at 83 mph on his throws from right field during defensive drills.
IF Matthew Rose (Clearwater Central Catholic, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 160 pounds on a compact frame. Took several strong rounds of batting practice, barreling it up multiple times for hard hit line drives. Registered 90+ mph exit velocities. Quick hands, looks to drive the ball gap-to-gap.
IF/C Miles Curley (Osceola Fundamental, FL)
Strong frame standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Made loud, hard contact all throughout the weekend. Hammered one deep into the left-center field gap for a standup triple during game play. Clocked in at 7.03 seconds for his 60 yard dash time.
IF Zack Crawford (JW Mitchell HS, FL)
Stood out offensively where he showed a feel for the barrel and was able to make hard, solid contact, registering a 90 mph exit velocity in the cages. Showed above average speed as well, clocking in at 6.96 seconds for his 60 yard dash time.
OF Carter French (Jesuit HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Displayed easy bat speed from the left side of the plate, works in rhythm and stays on time throughout. Showed present above average athleticism as well, clocking in at 6.89 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Projects for more power offensively as he continues to fill out and strengthen his frame.
C Ryan Gargett (Inspiration Academy, FL)
Strong lower half. Looks to drive the ball with intent, aggressive approach. Some gap-to-gap power potential. Ball really jumped off the bat when he squares it up. Registered 2.03-2.06 seconds pop times.
IF Quentin Meadows (King HS, FL)
Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds on a projectable, athletic frame. Above average bat speed with strong hands through the zone. Registered a 91 mph exit velocity in the cage. More power to come as he fills out. Topped out at 81 mph on his throws from short.
OF Nick Monile (Calvary Christian HS, FL)
Stood out offensively where he took several strong rounds of batting practice, consistently finding the barrel and driving the ball gap-to-gap. Stays balanced throughout, above average bat speed from the left side. Also showed above average speed by running a 6.90 seconds 60 yard dash time.
C Israel Oliva (Gaither HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Lean frame with some present athleticism. Registered 88 mph exit velocity in the cage. Quick hands, looks to drive the ball back up the middle. Stays balanced throughout. Registered 2.00-2.03 second pop times from behind the plate.
IF/OF Nelson Ramos (Northeast HS, FL)
Stood out offensively with multiple strong rounds of batting practice. Registered multiple 90+mph exit velocities. Looks to drive the ball with intent, should see more power come as he utilizes his lower half more.
IF Chris Roberts (Steinbrenner HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic frame. Stood out offensively where he showed above average bat speed from the right side of the plate with gap-to-gap power potential. Consistently found the barrel during batting practice. Balanced approach with quick hands.
