The 2019 WWBA World Championship Day 3 Recap
The 2019 WWBA Championships began in Jupiter, Florida on October 10th and features 95 of the top teams nationwide for one of the most heavily scouted baseball events in the country. Our media and scout team has been out and about at multiple games collecting pitcher velocities, video, big hits, taking notes, and more.
Below is a recap of standouts for the third day (October 12th) of action which was covered by the members of our team:
2020 OF Brandon Fields (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
After running for 170 yards and scoring two touchdowns in a football game the night before, the South Carolina commit put together another extremely impressive performance, this time on the baseball field. Fields showed his big power and lightning bat speed when he crushed a ball over the left field wall that not only left that bat easily at 100+ mph, but was lighttower power and cleared the fence by a long shot. He also made a tremendous play when he was playing center field by running down a ball deep into the left-center field gap to take away an extra base hit. Quick first step and above average closing speed. The athleticism is off the charts and the impact he can make on the field is game-changing.
2021 1B/LHP Jac Caglianone Jr. (FTB Tucci)
The Florida commit continued to show why he is one of the top hitters in his class as he hammered a ball over the right fielder’s head for a two-run double that hit the top of the fence. Easy left handed swing with power. High ceiling two-way.
2020 LHP Hunter Owen (NorthEast Baseball)
Big, strong frame at 6-5, 225. The Vanderbilt commit ran his fastball up to 92 during his outing, mostly sitting 86-90 mph, but reaching back and touching 90 again when he needed the strikeout. Also mixed in a 78-80 mph changeup. Generated multiple swings and misses.
2021 RHP Cameron Clines (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
The uncommitted righty came in for relief using mostly all fastballs, sitting 88-91 mph with run, touching 92. Also mixed in a 73-74 mph curveball. He has a 6-3, 200 frame with a stronger lower half. Has made a nice jump in velocity and is one of the top uncommitted arms left in the state.
2020 IF Cole Fontelle (Baseball Northwest)
Washington commit. Laced a ball into right field for a two-run single. Shows present strength and above average bat speed from the left side.
2020 IF Connor Morgan (FTB Tucci)
St. John’s River commit. Ripped a ball back up the middle for a line drive single in his first at-bat, then followed it up with a loud fly out to deep center field. Creates hard contact and the ball leaves the bat in a hurry when he squares it up. Strong frame, really utilizes his lower half.
2020 1B Ryne Guida (NorthEast Baseball)
Hammered a ball back up the middle to lead off the inning with a line drive single. The Stetson commit shows a strong lower half and generates easy power. Aggressive approach and looks to drive the ball with intent.
2020 MIF Jacob Starling (FTB Tucci)
The East Carolina commit showed off his quick hands and drove a ball up the middle for a two-run single during the game, then taking second base on the throw in. Defensively, he shows confident hands.
2020 LHP/1B TJ Curd (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Worked a quick 1-2-3 inning of relief. Physical frame. Fastball mostly sat 86-88 mph with sink, touching 89 while mixing in a 78-79 mph changeup and 75-76 mph slider with depth. Florida commit.
2020 C/1B Josh Pernetti (BPA Baseball)
Launched a two-run home run over the right field wall that was gone the second it left the bat. Shows big pull side power from the left side and a strong frame 6-2, 210. Uncommitted.
2020 OF Nolan Schanuel (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Above average bat speed from the left side, really can drive it with intent to the pull side. Laced one off the first base bag for a single during the game. Florida Atlantic commit.
2020 OF Jayden Hill (Dallas Tigers)
Hammered a ball deep over the right fielder’s head for an RBI double. Ball really jumped off the bat with loud contact from left side. Physical frame at 6-2, 215. Uncommitted.
2020 OF Mario Zabala (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Continued to just punish the baseball. Sent a rocket over the left fielder’s head for a triple during the game. The ball really explodes off the bat. Florida International commit.
2020 RHP Shawn Perez (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Came in for relief and cruised through his two innings of work, racking up five strikeouts. The Florida International commit mostly sat 87-89 mph with his fastball that had run, mixed in a 79-81 above average changeup and a 73-74 mph curveball. Strong, athletic frame, creates deception in his delivery.
