The 2019 WWBA World Championship Day 1 and 2 Recap

The 2019 WWBA Championships began in Jupiter, Florida on October 10th and features 95 of the top teams nationwide for one of the most heavily scouted baseball events in the country. Over the next several days our team will be out and about at multiple games collecting pitcher velocities, video, big hits, taking notes, and more.

Below is a recap of standouts over the first two days (October 10/11th) of action which was covered by the members of our team: 

Day 1 

US Elite National vs Northeast Baseball National 

2020 1B Brett Anderson (Northeast Baseball)
Smoked a ball deep into the left-center field gap for a triple. The Hartford commit has a strong frame and squared it up from the left side.

2020 OF/RHP Grayson Moore (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
While Moore has been up to 92 recently, he showed his high offensive potential as well driving the ball deep into the left-center and right-center field gap gaps from both sides of the plate. Athletic two-way. High ceiling. Vanderbilt commit.

2022 MIF Termarr Johnson (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Took an impressive few rounds of batting practice. Very quick hands from the left side, showed a feel for the barrel with multiple hard hit line drives. Plenty of athleticism as well.

2021 C Jayden Melendez (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Was as an offensive standout over the weekend at Florida Diamond Club, worked in rhythm and drove the ball gap to gap. Big leg kick for power. Ball jumps off the bat. Florida International commit.

2020 C Sebastian “Bazz” Jimenez (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Showed big pull side pop during batting practice. Has gotten noticeably stronger and it’s show offensively as he drove the ball with intent and confidence. Florida State commit.

2020 OF Mario Zabala (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Continues to be a big riser. Zabala was another offensive standout this past weekend at Diamond Club and put on a power display during batting practice, driving a couple way over the left field wall. Creates hard contact and the ball explodes off the bat. Florida International commit.

2020 IF Dante Girardi (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Displayed a balanced and confident approach from the right side, lacing the ball gap to gap with pull side pop. Finds the barrel often and trusts his hands. Florida International commit.

2020 OF AJ Shaver (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Put on an impressive few rounds of batting practice, driving several way over the left field wall. Physical frame and when he squares it up he makes loud, hard contact. Florida State commit.

2020 OF Shawn Perez (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Has a strong, athletic frame and shows juice from the right side. Drove multiple pitches over the left field wall with an aggressive approach. Shows present power. Florida International commit.

2020 C McGwire Holbrook (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Made lots of loud, hard contact during batting practice, driving the ball over the left-center and left field wall. Ball jumps off the bat and the power has taken a jump. Was a standout over the weekend Florida Diamond Club. West Virginia commit.

2020 Nolan Schanuel (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Took one of the more impressive rounds of batting practice of the group, consistently finding the barrel from the left side for loud, hard contact. Laced multiple pitches deep into the right-center field gap and showed present power when he took a few over the right field wall. Ball leaves the bat in a hurry. 

Knights/Exposure vs MLB Breakthrough

2020 RHP Ryan Hagenow (Knights/Exposure)
Cruised through his first three innings of work, sitting 89-91 mph fastball, touching 92 while mixing in a 79-80 mph slider and an 81-82 mph changeup. Big frame at 6-5, 210, creates downhill action. Kentucky commit.

FTB Tucci vs Team Louisiana-Sheets

2020 RHP Hayden Durke (Team Louisiana-Sheets) 
One of the more impressive arms on the day as Durke came out of the gate pumping 91-94 mph fastballs, touching 95 with run while mixing in a 79-81 mph slider with depth. Physical frame, has struck out five in his first two innings pitched. Louisiana-Lafayette commit.

2020 IF Nate Blasick (FTB Tucci)
Has some serious juice from the left side. Pulled a couple balls foul of the right field pole, but they left the bat loudly and went a long way over the wall. Big, strong frame. West Virginia commit.

2021 RHP Fisher Jameson (FTB Tucci)
Has a tall, long frame at 6-4, 205 with room to fill out. Sat 86-88 mph with his fastball, touching 89 whole mixing in a 71-72 mph curveball. More velocity to come as he fills out. Uncommitted. 

2020 C Bennett Lee (FTB Tucci) 
Really has been in the groove offensively. After a standout performance at Florida Diamond Club, he laced a ball into left field to lead off the inning. Tulane commit.

Mets Scout Team vs Scorpions Founders Club

2020 OF CJ Kayfus (Scorpions Founders Club)
The Miami commit continued to be an offensive standout at the top of the lineup, lacing a ball through the right side of the infield for an RBI single. Above average bat speed from the left side with a feel for the barrel, balanced approach. 

2020 RHP Jackson Nezuh
Shut down the opposing lineup as he mostly sat 88-91 mph with his fastball, running it up to 92 while mixing in a 74-75 mph curveball with depth. Quick arm with a projectable frame at 6-2, 175 with more velocity to come as he fills out. 

2020 LHP Caden Elliott (Mets Scout Team/Georgia Bombers)
Sat 86-88 mph with his fastball, mixing in a 71-73 mph curveball, 78-79 mph changeup. Big frame at 6-6 with projection. Tennessee commit.

2020 OF Cesar Franco (Mets Scout Team/Georgia Bombers) 
Showed off his above average arm when he gunned down a runner at the plate from right field. Throw had plenty of carry and was a strike to the catcher. Florida International commit.

2020 OF Mario Zabala (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Zabala continued to establish himself as one of the top bats at the event as he hammered a ball back up the middle for a line drive single in his first at-bat. Florida International commit.

2020 RHP Grayson Moore (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
After giving up an early run, the athletic two-way really seemed to lock in and went after the opposing lineup. Mostly sat 88-90 mph with his fastball, touching 91 while mixing in a curveball at 70-73 mph and a 78-79 mph changeup. Long, projectable frame with athleticism. Vanderbilt commit.

2020 OF Tervell Johnson (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Crushed a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run. Made a loud bang on contact and it was gone right off the bat. Georgia Tech commit.

2020 LHP Cole Reynolds (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Struck out the side in his first inning of work. Mostly used his fastball at 86-88 mph with life, occasionally mixed in an 80-81 mph changeup. Big, strong frame at 6-5, 225. Elon commit.

2020 IF Dante Girardi (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Laced a ball into left field for a single. Jumps on the fastball and can really square it up. Physical frame. Florida International commit.

2020 RHP/IF Jovan Gill (FTB/Giants Scout Team) 
Closed out the game and struck out the side in his inning of work. Fastball sat 88-89 mph while mixing in a 70-72 mph curveball and a 77-78 mph changeup. Pounded the strike zone. Stetson commit.

Day 2

2020 C Caleb Pendleton (Padres Scout Team)
Laced one down the left field line for a standup double in his second at-bat. The Florida Atlantic commit has continually stood out over the past couple weeks at multiple events.

2020 IF Josh Moylan (Dirtbags)
Squared one up and laced a ball into right field for a line drive single. Above average bat speed from the left side witj present strength on his 6-4, 225 frame. East Carolina commit.

2020 RHP John Armstrong (643 DP Cougars)
Creates a very tough angle on hitters, submarine thrower. Plenty of movement, induces off-balanced swings. Auburn commit.

2022 C Luke Heyman (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Laced a ball into left field for a line drive single. The Florida commit shows easy bat speed with a feel for the barrel from the right side.

2021 LHP/1B Jac Caglianone Jr. (FTB/Giants Scout Team) 
Sat 88-89 fastball, touching 90, mixing in a 78-79 mph change up with sink, and a 72-73 mph curveball with depth in his two innings of work. Loose, easy working arm. Big projection with his frame. Florida commit. 

2020 LHP Ashe Ammerlaan (South Florida Bandits)
Struck out two in first two innings pitched. 6-2, 185 frame with a strong lower half. Plenty of movement on the fastball at 87-89 mph, touching 90 while mixing in a 70-71 mph curveball. Uncommitted.

2020 MIF Steven Ondina (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Elite defender. Quick feet, confident hands and takes efficient angles to the ball. Made a tough play up the middle on a hard hit ground ball with an accurate throw to first for the out. Florida Internationall commit.

2020 OF/RHP Grayson Moore (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Continues to make an impact everywhere. Squared one up and drove it deep over the left fielder’s head to the wall for an RBI triple. The Vanderbilt commit was up to 91 last night on the mound as well. 

2020 MIF Dante Girardi (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Crushed a ball deep into the left-center field gap for a two-run triple. Really turned it on rounding second base. The Florida International commit has consistently barreled it up so far, ball jumps off the bat.

2020 RHP Gerardo Cuevas (FTB/Giants Scout Team)
Strong, durable frame. Ball jumps out of his hand with late life. Came in for relief pumping fastballs where he sat 91-93 mph with multiple 92s and 93s. Uses pauses throughout his windup to throw off the timing of the batter. Houston commit.

RHP Dylan Lesko (Padres Scout Team)
The top ranked 2022 in the country was electric in relief work, striking out five in two innings while running his fastball up to 94. Mostly sat 91-94 mph with life, mixing in a sharp slider at 76-77 mph, and a 81-82 mph changeup. Ball jumps out of his hand. Uncommitted.

2020 C Mac Guscette (Florida Burn)
Drove one down the left field line for a run-scoring ground rule double. Quick hands and stays balanced throughout. The Florida commit was another offensive standout during the Florida Diamond Club.
