Hawks Move to 7-0 as Neely Ks 9

Last night the Spruce Creek Hawks visited the Hagerty Huskies which would end up in a 6-1 victory for the away team as the Hawks moved their record to an impressive 7-0 on the season.

The Hawks got a strong pitching performance from 2021 RHP Brandon Neely who ran his fastball up to 94 mph while generating plenty of swings and misses on his way to 9 strikeouts in four innings of work. The Florida commit gave up only one hit and really got into a groove, shutting down the opposing lineup. Lucas Mahlstedt would come in for relief work for three innings just allowing a single run.

On offense, the Hawks were lead by the bats of Chase Dunlap and Corey Robinson. Robinson started off the third with an RBI double that was driven into right-center field before Dunlap followed it up later in the inning with a 2-run triple that was laced into the right field corner. The Hawks chipped in three more runs throughout the rest of the game, but really never looked back after the top of the 3rd.

With the win, the Hawks moved to 7-0 while the Huskies fell to 0-6.

Players of the Game

2021 RHP Brandon Neely (Spruce Creek HS, FL)
Florida commit. Was dominant in his outing as he went 4 IP, 1 H, 3BB, 9 Ks. He was able to keep the Huskies from getting comfortable in the box with a fastball sitting in the low 90s (up to 94) and a good mix of off speed pitches. Surrendered a lone single in the beginning of the game before settling in and cruising through 4 innings to get the Win. Big, athletic frame. Neely will continue to be a strong MLB draft follow this spring.

2021 OF Corey Robinson (Spruce Creek HS, FL)
Florida commit. Went 1-4, 2B, 1 RBI. Doubled in his second at bat driving a ball to deep right center scoring the first run of the game. Showed plus bat speed and great pitch recognition at the plate, as he was patient and waited for his pitch and drove it. Will continue to be an MLB draft follow this spring.

2021 OF/RHP Chase Dunlap (Spruce Creek HS, FL)
University of Massachusetts-Amherst commit. Went 2-3, 1B, 3B, 2 RBI, HBP, SB, run. Smoked a ball down into the right field corner, driving home two runs for a stand up triple. Fast hands in the box and moves extremely well on the base path, stealing second easily. Drove the ball hard in each AB, and fields his position extremely well, showcasing a strong arm from RF.

2022 OF/RHP Cam King (Hagerty HS, FL)
Bethune-Cookman commit. Went 1-3, 2B, 1 run scored. Every AB King gets he generates hard contact, accumulating in a stand up double over the CF head to get the spark going for Hagerty. He later scored the lone run for the Huskies. Also had 0 ER and 3 Ks through two innings on the mound showcasing two way potential.
