Ducks Blank the Heat 7-0 Behind McCorkle, Alana’s Strong Day at the Plate

In the first game of a doubleheader, the Florida Heat visited the TNXL Academy Ducks in what would end in a 7-0 shut out victory for the home team. 2022 OF Gauge McCorkle (TNXL Academy FL) paced the offense for the Ducks in the game as he delivered multiple run scoring hits while staying aggressive on the base paths and scoring a couple runs himself. 2022 IF Diego Ayala (TNXL Academy, FL) was also a key a part of the Ducks offensive output as he delivered a sac fly and RBI single during two of his at-bats. IF Robbie Demetree and OF Chase Marsh also chipped in on offense as well.

The Ducks got a strong start from 2022 RHP Jessy Camire who was able to use a low to mid 80s fastball along with a curveball that induced lots of swings and misses along with some off-balance swings. The big uncommitted right hander went four innings and earned the win for the game. 2023 RHP Tyler Helton came in for relief and picked up right where Camire left off, shutting down the Heat for the final three innings and striking out multiple batters along the way as well.

Players of the Game

2022 OF Gauge McCorkle (TNXL Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Recently re-classified from a 2023 to 2022. Lean frame with room to fill out which should translate to additional power as he become more physical. Had three hits on the day which included two line drives that were laced back up the middle along with a double on a ball that was laced down the left field line. Above average bat speed and shows some present feel for the barrel. Stayed aggressive in the box and looked for his pitch to hit.

2022 IF Diego Alana (TNXL Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Lean frame with present athleticism. Had a strong day at the plate where he delivered a key sacrifice fly to right field early in the game along with a hard line drive RBI single to right field later on. Easy, smooth swing from the left side. Takes a smart at-bat. Above average actions up the middle defensively and ranges freely to his right and left.

2023 IF Robbie Demetree (TNXL Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic frame that has become noticeably more physical, especially in his lower half which has translated offensively. Fast hands, easy bat speed, and finds the barrel often. During one of his at-bats during the game he drove a ball to deep left field for an RBI single. Ball really jumped off the bat. Works gap-to-gap for loud base hits. Above average defender who has topped out at 92 mph across the diamond as well.

2023 RHP Tyler Helton (TNXL Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Big, strong frame who creates some downhill action. Was able to generate multiple swings and misses with his fastball while looking to work down in the zone. Mostly sat 83-85 mph with some run. Coming back from an injury, Helton will be a good follow to watch as he progresses and gets stronger. There’s more in there.

2023 OF Chase Marsh (TNXL Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Lean frame with some quick twitch athleticism. Loose, fast hands in the box and looks to drive the ball into the gaps and get going out of the box. Was able to successfully pull off a hit and run as he drove a ball through the right side of the infield for a single while moving the runner over from first to third base. Increased physicality to his frame will translate to jumps in his overall game.

2025 MIF Jonathan Williams (Florida Heat)
Athletic frame and while he was one of the younger batters in the day, showed real potential from the left side of the plate. Very quick hands for his age and laced a ball into center field for a base hit during his first at-bat. Young bat to follow moving forward with some good blood lines.
