OBA 2025 Summer Teams Tryout Camp Standouts (Part 1)

From December 6-8th, players from the 2026-2028 classes participated in this year’s Ostingers Baseball Academy 2025 Summer Teams Tryout Camp, taking place at the OBA Training facility, Jesuit HS, and historic Henley Field in Lakeland, FL. Players went through bullpens on Friday night followed by pro-style workouts on Saturday and then live games on Sunday. Below are a list of players (Part 1 of 2) our scouting staff felt stood out the most throughout the event and are strong follows heading into the spring season.

Mike’s First Group

2026 MIF Gavin Byrd (Lakeland Christian, FL)
South Carolina commit. Continued to stand out as one of the rising top prospects, flashing multiple big time tools. Physical, athletic frame and works from a balanced and confident approach offensively. Finds the barrel often for hard contact and can drive the ball anywhere on the field with present juice. Premium bat. Above average arm that tops out at 91 mph across the diamond. Fields the ball under control and throws are accurate to the bag. Above average runner with sub 6.70 60 yd dash times. Very strong follow and a 2026 draft follow to bookmark.

2026 MIF AJ Cruz (Bloomingdale HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Put together multiple impressive rounds of batting practice, showing real offensive firepower. Roped the ball back up the middle and to the pull side for multiple line drives with loose, quick hands. Also showed the ability to go the other way. Present feel for the barrel and works in rhythm. Ranges freely to his left and right up the middle defensively.

2026 RHP/IF Vaughn Osting (Bloomingdale HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Two-way standout most notably on the mound. Loose, easy working arm that sits in the 83-85 mph range with his fastball. Throws his full arsenal for strikes which includes a low 70s changeup with fade, an upper 60s curveball with depth, and a low 70s slider with late movement. More in the tank with another jump coming soon. The switch hitter also shows present bat speed from both sides of the plate, driving the ball all over the field. Really can work the gaps from the left side. Above average instincts, feel for the game.

2027 RHP/OF Tristan Macpherson (Durant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Big time follow as he was one of the top arms in attendance. Physical, athletic frame with a fast arm as the ball jumps out of his hand. Easy velocity that resulted in a 87-90 mph fastball (2300+ RPM) that showed life and more to come. Mixed in an upper 70s changeup with fade and a low 70s breaking ball with depth, shape. Power arm that will continue to establish himself as a top prospect in his class.

2028 C William Zyblock (IMG Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Long and athletic frame that will continue to fill out, translate to jumps in his overall game. Really stood out from behind the plate from a defensive perspective as he worked from an athletic stance and showed a natural feel to receive the ball. Strong wrists and sticks pitches. Moves well laterally and is willing to give up his body to keep the ball in front of him. Above average arm which was seen with accurate throws to the bag along with topping out at 80 mph on his throws from the outfield. Above average bat speed from the right side of the plate that produced a number of line drives during batting practice. Still more power to unlock. 

Anthony’s First Group

2026 OF Carter Sprague (Lakewood Ranch HS, FL)
Uncommitted. This 2026 talent is an athletic outfielder whose elite speed impacts every aspect of his game. Offensively, he features a balanced, efficient swing that generates consistent contact, allowing him to drive balls into the gaps and take full advantage of his speed on the basepaths. Defensively, his quick first step and ability to cover large amounts of ground make him a significant asset in the outfield, where he tracks down difficult plays with ease. His sharp reads, smooth routes, and accurate arm round out his defensive skill set, making him a reliable and versatile player in the field. Game changer in any part of the order.

2026 C Carson Binder (Berkeley Prep, FL)
Uncommitted. This skilled catcher can bring a well-rounded game to both offense and defense. At the plate, he showcased a balanced swing with excellent bat control and impressive lower half that helped muscle pitches out of the infield. Behind the plate, Binder is a standout with his quick footwork, strong arm, and precise throws which leads to excelling at controlling the running game. Additionally, his framing ability and game management skills make him a reliable leader for his pitching staff, adding tremendous value to his team. Present baseball IQ. 

2026 C Brock Spurgeon (McKeel Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. A dynamic catcher who displayed his athleticism all weekend long. Combines solid defensive abilities with a potent bat as well. Behind the plate, his mechanics are impressive, featuring consistent footwork and a strong arm that allows him to manage the base paths in game. As a right-handed hitter, Spurgeon is a consistent power threat, using a smooth swing to drive the ball to all areas of the field and produce key RBIs in crucial moments. His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively makes him a well-rounded and impactful player on the field. 

2027 RHP/IF Aiden Cary (Venice HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Well rounded talented right-handed pitcher and infielder who excels in multiple facets of the game. On the mound, he features clean, repeatable mechanics that allow him to command his pitches effectively and maintain consistency throughout his outings. A dropped down arm slot that keeps hitters off balanced. Fastball in the low 80s and features tough off-speed pitches. As a shortstop, Cary displays smooth fielding with precise footwork and quick reactions, making him reliable defensively. At the plate, maintained strong approaches with line-drive ability, consistently making solid contact, driving the ball gap to gap and working counts. 

2027 C Evan Plusquellic (Newsome HS, FL)
Uncommitted. A skilled catcher with clean, efficient mechanics behind the plate, allowing him to receive and block. Quick release time with a feel for the game while working with the pitcher. At the plate, Plusquellic is a defined power hitter, consistently driving the ball with authority to all fields. Had two balls hit the warning track with ease during games on Sunday. His ability to combine power with defensive reliability makes him a key contributor to his team on both sides of the game.
