Perry Tosses CG Shutout as Episcopal Defeats Providence 6-0
Yesterday the Episcopal Eagles visited the Providence Stallions in the first game of the day as part of the Tournament of Champions. While the Eagles struck first early on in the game, 2021 RHP Layton Perry would be all the Stallions lineup could handle as the Jacksonville commit would shut them out during a complete game effort.
Perry didn’t have overpowering stuff, but he pounded the strike zone and induced plenty of off-balance swings and ground ball outs. Featured a fastball that mostly sat 82-84 mph while mixing in a 77-78 mph slider and 75-76 mph changeup. Perry was a bulldog on the mound throughout his outing, refusing to give in to any batter and dealing all the way to the finish line. He finished with six strikeouts, scattering five hits and only walking one.
Offensively the Eagles received great production out of the top of their lineup, as uncommitted 2021 MIF Connor McGarity and 2022 IF Austin Eppley lead the way on offense out of the 1-2 spot. McGarity provided a spark out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Eppley followed right behind McGarity, driving him in for the first run of the game and going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. 2022 1B Hunter Russell would also chip in on offense with a sac fly along with 2022 C Hayden Perry who had an RBI single.
With the win, the Eagles moved to 6-1 while the Stallions fell to 3-4 on the year.

2021 RHP Layton Perry (The Episcopal School, FL)
Jacksonville commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds with present strength throughout. Fastball mostly sat in the 82-84 mph range along with a 77-78 mph slider and 75-76 mph changeup. Perry worked with a quicker pace and looked to get a first pitch strike on the batter and put him behind in the count early on. Kept the ball low in the zone and along with racking up six strikeouts, induced plenty of ground ball outs. Competes every pitch and went after the batter.
2021 MIF Connor McGarity (The Episcopal School, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Above average bat speed from the right side. Took smart at-bats out of the leadoff spot where he went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. One of his hits included a 2-run double that was smoked to deep centerfield. Above average runner.
2022 IF Austin Eppley (The Episcopal School, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds on a lean, athekric frame with room to still fill out. Fast hands from the left side of the plate with a present feel for the barrel. Went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs which included a base hit up the middle and a line drive sac fly to right field. Ball really jumps off the bat when he’s on time.
2022 1B Hunter Russell (The Episcopal School, FL)
Notre Dame commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds on a tall frame with more power to come. While Hunter showed off some present pull side pop, which translated to a deep sac fly to right field during one of his at-bats, his defense really stood out. Consistently throughout the game he picked and scooped balls in the dirt, bailing out some of his infielders on ground ball plays. Above average defensive first basemen with left-handed power.
2023 C Anthony Saleeba (Providence HS, FL)
USF commit. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds on a frame that has become noticeably more physical, especially in his forearms and lower half. Behind the plate he is consistently is in an athletic position, gives his body up for balls in the dirt, strong wrists. Made a heads up play on a foul tip to catch it for the out. Also showed his offensive side when he drove a ball into left field for one of his at-bats for a single.
