Minacci and Politz Deliver Big Performances in Jesuit's 12-1 Win

The Jesuit Tigers defeated the Calvary Christian Eagles (Fort Lauderdale) on Friday (3/6) night by a score of 12-1 on a 10 run mercy rule after 5 innings. 2020 RHP Camden Minacci of Jesuit HS dominated the Eagles lineup surrendering just one hit and fanning 11 over five magnificent innings. 2021 RHP Irving Carter of Calvary Christian was able to counter with a strong opening inning but ran into trouble in the home half of the second as walks began to pile on along with Tiger’s hitters putting the ball in play to score three. The three run second inning put early pressure on the Eagles lineup that could not do a thing against Minacci up until the 4th inning where 2020 MIF Dante Girardi was finally able to break through with the Eagles lone hit of the night and spoil Minacci’s no-hit bid.

The Eagles would go on to bring Girardi home in that inning but the Tigers would come roaring back in the home half of the fourth, crossing four runs coming off the Jesuit power hitters of 2021 OF BJ Graham and 2020 1B/C Henry Politz. This would knock SP Irving Carter out of the game for the Eagles and force them to go to the bullpen to stave off the barrage of Tiger runs. Minacci would head into the 5th inning with a 7-1 cushion and would not let up his dominance with another 1-2-3 inning, opening the door for a potential mercy rule opportunity for the Tigers in the home half of the 5th.

With the Jesuit HS Tigers leading 9-1 behind RBIs in the 5th inning by 2021 OF BJ Graham and 2021 MIF Nick Rodriguez, 2020 1B/C Henry Politz stepped to the plate with runners at the corners and sent a missle to the right field wall for his third hit of the night on a three-run home run and walked off the five inning affair in celebratory fashion.

With the win the Jesuit Tigers moved to 7-0 on the year while Calvary Christian Eagles fell to 2-2.

Standouts

2020 RHP Camden Minacci (Jesuit HS, FL)
The Wake Forest commit was untouchable throughout the night for the Tigers, missing bats on his way to 11 Ks on the night and surrendering one lone hit. Minacci’s fastball was mostly 89-91 mph, touching 92.

2020 1B/C Henry Politz (Jesuit HS, FL)
Holy Cross commit. Politz was 3 for 3 on the night with balls laced towards right field on each at bat highlighted by a walk-off three run bomb that sent the opposing Calvary Christian Eagles packing. Politz has a huge frame with power hitter mentality

2020 RHP Irving Carter (Calvary Christian HS, FL)
Miami commit. Carter was effective through the first few innings of work missing bats behind a nasty 82 MPH SL to compliment a FB that topped at 92 for the night.
