Spartans Club Five Homers in Mercy Rule Win to Advance to District Championship
Last night the St. John’s Country Day Spartans hosted the Eagles View Academy Eagles in a district playoff matchup that saw the home team put on an offensive barrage which included five home runs hit by the Spartans. The game eventually ended in a mercy rule after 3.5 innings as they put up six runs in each inning, winning 18-0.
For the Spartans, this night was all about the offense. 2021 MIF Connor Moore (FSU Commit) 2021 1B Luke Shannahan (Pensacola State commit) and 2021 OF James Oman (Chipola commit) lead the charge as they each homered. Moore and Shannahan would homer twice, really putting a charge into the offense. Moore went 3-4 with 5 RBIs, Shannahan 2-3 with 7 RBIs (including a Grand Slam) and Oman went 1-3 with 2 RBIs. The Spartans offense received production all throughout the lineup as each starter registered a hit on the night.
2022 LHP Brad Hodges (Virginia commit) started for the Spartans and would earn the win in the mercy rule shortened game. Displayed a fastball that sat 87-89 mph while mixing in a 75-76 mph curveball with depth. Struck out three and didn’t allow a hit in his brief stint. 2021 LHP Jace Thomas and 2022 RHP Jude Howell would each throw and inning of relief following Hodges, also not allowing a hit and preserving the no-hitter.
With the win the Spartans will play Thursday night for the 2A-3 District Championship.

Top Performers
2021 MIF Connor Moore (St. John’s Country Day, FL)
FSU commit. Lean frame standing at 6-1, 180 with above average athleticism. Had a strong night at the plate where he went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored which included two home runs. The hands are quick through the zone with a present feel for the barrel. Top of the lineup hitter who seems to be very comfortable and stays balanced throughout his swing. Also stood out in the field where he showed an above average arm and a quick turn and transfer on a couple double plays. Fields the ball under control and shows range backhand and forehand. Brings plenty of the table from an overall standpoint and will be one to follow closely as the MLB Draft nears.
2021 1B Luke Shannahan (St. John’s Country Day, FL)
Pensacola State commit. Big, strong frame. Creates loud, hard contact from the left side of the plate with present juice, especially to the pull side. Ball really jumps off the bat. Went 2-for-3 with 7 RBIs that included a Grand Slam that was crushed over the right field wall.
2021 OF James Oman (St. John’s Country Day, FL)
Chipola commit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds with present strength. Went 1-for-3 at the plate which included a two-run home run that was a no-doubter over the left field wall as soon as it left the bat. Above average bat speed from the right side and can really drive the ball with intent when he’s on time. There’s even more power in there.
2022 LHP Brad Hodges (St. John’s Country Day, FL)
Virginia commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds on a lean frame that still projects to fill out. Loose, quick arm with more in the tank. Featured a fastball that sat 87-89 mph with plenty of movement, especially to the glove side, jamming right handed hitters. Works down in the zone. Also mixed in a 75-76 mph curveball that showed depth and shape. Struck out three in his brief two innings of work where he was credited with the win. Very strong follow.
