2019 Florida Diamond Club Classic Saturday Standouts

2019 Florida Diamond Club Classic Saturday Standouts

With numerous talented players in attendance, below are several who stood out and made an impact during the day on Saturday:

OWEN FLYNN, RHP (WINDERMERE HIGH SCHOOL) 2021

Flynn was a real bright spot over the weekend. The 6-foot-4 North Carolina commit was impressive on the mound posting a fastball that sat at 89-91 mph with an above average curveball that he threw for strikes at 73-74 mph.

NAJER VICTOR, RHP (EAST RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL) 2020

The Florida State commit pounded the bottom half of the strike zone with a fastball that averaged 92-95 mph. Kept hitters off-balance with a change-up that averaged 85-86 mph and also displayed a 74-75 mph curveball which had quality break. Big potential.

CADE UDELL, RHP (LAKE MARY HIGH SCHOOL) 2020

Udell wasn’t hard to miss this past weekend after an impressive performance on the mound along with his extra large frame. The Duke commit attacked the strike zone with a fastball that averaged 91-94 mph and kept hitters guessing while showing off a 81-84 mph change up and a slider that came in at 77-80 mph.

JORDAN CARRION, RHP/SS (AMERICAN HERITAGE- PLANTATION HIGH SCHOOL) 2020

The two-way athlete was exciting over the weekend. The University of Florida commit showed a quick arm on the mound, ranging from 88-90 mph with his fastball, a 73-76 mph curveball, and a change up which came in at 81-84 mph. Offensively, Carrion displayed the ability to drive the ball into the gaps during early morning batting practice

JAYDEN MELENDEZ, C (WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL) 2021

The Florida International University commit Jayden Melendez was the prospect that I was most intrigued with at the Florida Diamond Club Classic. Don’t let the 5-foot-9, 175 pound frame fool you, Melendez showed off impressive power during batting practice taking 4 of the 6 balls in the final round for a ride over the left field wall. This 2021 commit also showed off an above average arm from behind home plate and only will get better with time. Expect to hear this name down the line quite often.

BROCK WILKEN, 3B/C (BLOOMINGDALE HIGH SCHOOL) 2020

The 2020 Wake Forest commit is a big bat with an impressive arm. Wilken displayed strong power and the ability to drive the ball all over the field. Brock showed big power by taking two deep over the wall during batting practice. Defensively, his arm works behind the plate or at the corners.
