CBU Summer 2021 Tryouts Standouts Part 3
This past weekend one of the newly formed organizations in CBU (combination of Cannons Baseball Academy, Baseball University, and 5 Star National Miami) held their Summer 2021 Tryouts at historic Terry Park in Fort Myers, FL. This event featured 220+ players from the 2022-2025 classes from all over the state of Florida. Pitchers threw light bullpens on Friday night followed by a pro-style workout for position players on Saturday and game action on Sunday.
Our scouting staff came away extremely impressed by the level of talent across the board so for that reason we will be splitting up our Standouts breakdown into three parts. Below is Part 3 of our breakdown with reports/notes on each. Please make sure you are following us on our social media outlets as well as we post highlights, clips, and announcements on past and upcoming events.

2022 LHP Chris Scinta (Taravella HS, FL)
Miami commit. Scinta can really deal on the mound, as he carved up hitters during gameplay with off-balance swings, swings and misses, and a feel for all the pitches in his arsenal. Fastball mostly sits 85-87 mph, touching 88 with lots of run and a high spin rate. Also mixes in an 81-82 mph changeup with similar fastball arm speed, and a nasty slider at 77-78 mph with depth. Also displayed some present pull side pop from the left side of the plate as he connected on several during batting practice that went over the right-center field wall.
2022 RHP/IF Zack Showalter (Wesley Chapel HS, FL)
USF commit. Showalter was one of the biggest standouts at the event as he showed big time potential with above average athleticism. On the mound it where he shows his biggest upside as he sits 91-92 with his fastball that shows life. Ball really jumps out of his hand. Also mixed in an 80-81 mph changeup and a 76-77 mph slider with late, hard break. Fast arm. Also showed above average speed when he clocked in at 6.56 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Present bat speed from the right side with some feel for the barrel. Very strong follow.
2022 C Gunnett Carlson (Berkeley Prep, FL)
FSU commit. Continued to show why he is one of the top backstops in his class with a strong overall weekend. Offensively he has a strong lower half and can really impact the baseball with intent from the left side of the plate. Creates a natural loft with multiple line drives into the right-center field gap and up the middle. Showed present pull side juice as well when he drove a couple balls way over the right-center field wall. Strong wrists behind the plate, keeps everything in front of him, and has strong and accurate throws to the bag.
2022 RHP Logan Plasencia (Taravella HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Big, strong frame. sat 87-89 mph, touching 90 with his fastball. Throws a heavy fastball and works down in the zone. Also mixed in a 72-75 mph curveball with depth and tighter spin. There’s more in the tank as he continues to fill out and will be a great add to a program at the next level looking for an arm that can pound the zone and rack up innings.
2024 1B/RHP Carter McCormick (Somerset Canyons Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Tall, physical frame. Really stood out offensively during batting practice as he showed present power to the pull side with strength throughout. Was able to send a ball over the left-center field wall during one of his rounds along with multiple hard line drives back up the middle.
2023 OF Justin Aron (American Heritage HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Aron really stood out during batting practice as everything really jumped off the bat and worked in rhythm to square it up. Displayed some present power, putting a couple over the left-center field wall with multiple hard line drives into left-center field and up the middle. Creates loud, hard contact.
2022 OF/LHP Erik Blair (Calvary Christian Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic frame with a stronger lower half. During batting practice he drove the ball deep into right-center field and up the middle multiple times displaying quick hands. During game play he ripped a line drive through the left side of the infield in his first at-bat for an RBI single. Also was up to 87 mph (been up to 89) on the mound. Blair was a two-way standout all throughout the weekend.
2023 RHP/1B Justin Breitenstein (Estero HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Tall, projectable frame with plenty of room to fill out. Stood out during batting practice from the left side as he drove multiple balls with intent deep into the right-center field gap while showing some present pull side juice. On the mound, he mostly sat 80-81 mph with his fastball that showed run and a 65-66 mph curveball with shape.
2024 C Andrew Tess (Calvary Christian HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Was really impressive defensively as he showed an above average feel behind the plate. Gets in a ready, athletic stance and receives the ball well with soft hands. Quick transfer with strong and accurate throws down to the bag. Threw out multiple runners during game play. Offensively, his hands work quick through the zone and goes gap-to-gap. Strong follow.
2024 OF Julian Irizzary (The Sagemont School, FL)
Uncommitted. Might have one of the best two rounds of batting practice for his grad class in the group as everything came off the bat with intent and deep into the gaps. Smooth, easy swing from the left side with fast hands that impact the baseball with the barrel consistently. Works in rhythm and stays balanced throughout. Strong bat to follow.
