CBU Summer 2021 Tryouts Standouts Part 2

CBU Summer 2021 Tryouts Standouts Part 2

This past weekend one of the newly formed organizations in CBU (combination of Cannons Baseball Academy, Baseball University, and 5 Star National Miami) held their Summer 2021 Tryouts at historic Terry Park in Fort Myers, FL. This event featured 220+ players from the 2022-2025 classes from all over the state of Florida. Pitchers threw light bullpens on Friday night followed by a pro-style workout for position players on Saturday and game action on Sunday.

Our scouting staff came away extremely impressed by the level of talent across the board so for that reason we will be splitting up our Standouts breakdown into three parts. Below is Part 2 of our breakdown with reports/notes on each. Please make sure you are following us on our social media outlets as well as we post highlights, clips, and announcements on past and upcoming events.

The Florida commit was one of the top arms on the weekend, showing big potential. Quick, loose, easy working arm. Pounds the strike zone and features a fastball that sits 88-92 mph, touching 93 with life. Also mixed in an 82-83 mph changeup with fade and a 73-74 mph curveball. Struck out multiple batters with lots of swings and misses in his inning of work during game play. Ball jumps out of his hand. Athletic, projectable frame with more to come. Very strong follow.

Offensively he showed loose, quick hands through the zone and barreled it up multiple times for hard hit line drives during batting practice. Lots of upside and a strong follow.

2022 OF AJ Nessler (Jesuit HS, FL)
Pittsburgh commit. Nessler was one of top offensive standouts at the event. During batting practice he consistently found the barrel from the left side which produced several balls being driven over the right-center field wall. Ball jumps off the bat when he’s on time with loud, hard contact. In his first at-bat during game play, he roped one to the right field wall for an RBI triple. Can really drive the ball with intent to the pull side.

Florida Gulf Coast commit. Really stood out offensively over the weekend as he has a very comfortable approach in the box and always seems ready to hit. Stays balanced and uses the whole field.
