Creekside Uses Late Offensive Surge to Take Down Atlantic Coast

Last night the Creekside Knights visited the Atlantic Coast Stingrays in a matchup that featured a late offensive surge from the visiting team in an eventual 9-4 victory. Notable performances at the plate came from 2022 1B Gavin Grant, 2021 C Bryce Brindle (Lawson State commit) and 2022 MIF Austin Rusomaroff (North Florida commit) who delivered key run scoring hits for the Knights.

2022 LHP Dakota Stone (Jacksonville commit) of Atlantic Coast HS, FL got the start for the home team and dominated the opposing lineup through the first three innings, racking up six strikeouts and not allowing a hit. Featured a fastball that sat 91-93 mph, touching 94 while mixing in an 82-83 mph changeup, 77-78 mph slider, and 73-74 mph curveball.

The Knights would eventually strike through though and in the 4th inning put up three runs on the board by way of 2021 C Bryce Brindle’s RBI single and an errant throw on a ground ball in the infield that would allow two more runs to score, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead in the top of the 4th.

The Knights would never look back as they tacked on two more runs in the top of the 5th before pouring it on in the top of the 6th with four more runs, making it 9-2. The Stingrays attempted to chip away at the large deficit in the bottom of the 7th by pushing across two runs, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Knights closed it out with a 9-4 victory.

2021 RHP Chandler Walton earned the win for the Knights, throwing five innings and allowing allowing two runs. With the win the Knights moved to 2-2 while the Stingrays fell to 2-2.

2022 LHP Dakota Stone (Atlantic Coast HS, FL)
Jacksonville commit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds on a strong, durable frame. Easy arm action and the ball really jumps out of his hand. Featured a fastball that sat 91-93 mph, touching 94 along with an 82-83 mph changeup, 77-78 mph slider, and 73-74 mph curveball that showed depth. Generated lots of swings and misses on his fastball and breaking pitches, keeping the hitters off balance and unable to catch up to the fastball. Pounds the strike zone and challenges the hitter every pitch with a bulldog mentality. Racked up six strikeouts during his outing through four innings. Strong 2022 MLB Draft prospect to follow moving forward.

2021 MIF Austin Rusomaroff (Creekside HS, FL)
North Florida commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds on a lean, athletic frame on a frame that projects to continue to fill out. Was one of the key contributors for the Knights as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Quick hands from the right side, aggressive hitter who looks to jump on the fastball and tag it.

2021 C Bryce Brindle (Creekside HS, FL)
Lawson State commit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 195 pounds on a physical frame, most notably in the lower half. During one of his at-bats he roped a ball back up the middle for an RBI single. Ball really jumps off the bat and creates hard contact.

2022 1B Gavin Grant (Creekside HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 150 pounds on a lean, projectable frame. More power to come as he continues to fill out. During one of his at-bats late in the game he turned on a fastball and laced it down the left field line for an RBI double.
