Ostingers Baseball Academy Summer Tryouts Standouts Part 1

This past weekend one of the top organizations nationally in Ostingers Baseball Academy held their 2021 Summer Tryouts which took place at Berkeley Prep in Tampa, FL. Each position player went through a pro-style workout followed by game action while pitchers threw during game action on Saturday and Sunday.

2023 OF/RHP Alexander Philpott (Newsome HS, FL
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-5, 175 pounds on a long, tall frame with plenty of room to fill out. Lots to like on the mound moving forward as he sat 84-86 mph with his fastball and mixed in a 71-72 mph curveball and 74-75 mph changeup. More to come with a high ceiling on the mound. Also showed off a loose, easy arm during defensive drills, topping out at 85 mph on his throws to home. Worked gap-to-gap during batting practice and sat back on a breaking ball during game play for a single to left field.

2024 OF/RHP Blaine Rowland (Durant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds on a strong, athletic frame for his age with a strong lower half. Displayed an above average arm from the outfield, topping out at 83 mph on his throws to home. Above average bat speed which translated to the game where he roped a ball to the left field wall for an easy standup double during game play. Showed potential on the mound as well where he sat 82-83 mph, touching 84 which had late life along with a 70-71 mph curveball. Strong two-way follow moving forward.

2022 RHP David Chappell (Bloomingdale HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds on a projectable frame. Chappell is an arm that needs to be closely followed moving forward as he was pumping strikes in his inning of work, topping out at 88 mph with his fastball. Mostly sat 85-87 along with a 75-76 mph curveball. Generated lots of swings and misses with more in the tank.

2024 OF/RHP Ryan Spitzer (Newsome HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 155 pounds on an athletic frame with projection. Stood out offensively from both sides of the plate with multiple hard line drives up the middle and into the gaps during batting practice. Fast hands through the zone. This translated to the game as he roped one over the right fielder’s head for an easy standup double and then followed it up with a line drive single into left field. 

2022 IF Ethan Petry (Cypress Creek HS, FL) 
South Carolina commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds with a big, strong frame. Barreled it up multiple times during batting practice for tape measure shots over the left field and left-center field wall. The ball really explodes off the bat when he squares it up. Suited to drive in dozens of runs in the heart of the order at the next level. Strong power bat to follow. 

2022 C/IF Mason Jantomaso (Winter Haven HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds with a strong lower half. Flashed offensive potential from the left side as he displayed loose, quick hands through the zone. Works in rhythm, finding the barrel often from the left side for hard line drives into the gaps. Backstop who can really make an impact offensively. 

2023 RHP Trey Wilson (Bloomingdale HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds on a projectable frame that has more to come. Sat 81-83 mph with his fastball while mixing in an above average curveball at 67-68 mph that showed depth. 

2024 C Carlos Morales (Durant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-7, 170 pounds on a compact frame with a stronger lower half. Took a couple of strong rounds of batting practice, showing pull side juice with loose, quick hands through the zone. Some feel for the barrel, makes hard contact and can really drive the ball with intent.

2023 1B/RHP Adan Longoria (Plant City HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Tall, athletic frame standing at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. Stood out offensively where he displayed present pull side pop. Drove several to the left field fence with loud, hard contact. Ball really jumps off the bat when he’s on time
