2020 Power Baseball Tryouts Class of 2024 Standouts
This past weekend Power Baseball held their 2020 Summer Team Tryouts at the Turn 2 Sports and Performance Center along with Rollins College over a three day stretch which included bullpens Friday night, pro-style workout on Saturday, and games on Sunday. Power Baseball has quickly become not only one of the top organizations in Florida, but nationally as well. With over 280 players in attendance at the tryouts, there were dozens of players who stood out and made an impact throughout the weekend.
Over the next several days we will be breaking down the standouts from throughout the weekend by grad class. Today we finish our breakdown with standouts from the 2024 Class:
C/OF Trey Craft
Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds on a loose, athletic, projectable frame. Craft was a major offensive standout all throughout the fall and continued to show his high offensive potential this past weekend. Easy bat speed from the left side that finds the barrel often. Stays in rhythm, advanced approach. Drove multiple pitches deep into the right-center field and left-center field gaps. Plenty of projection and power to come as he matures. Very high follow moving forward.
OF/LHP Talan Bell
Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Shows advanced actions all over the field. Offensively, he displayed quick hands and an aggressive approach, looking to drive the ball to the pull side and into the right-center field gap. Accurate throws with carry from the outfield during defensive drills. Also has been in the low 80s on the mound previously.
1B/LHP Ryan Ashford
Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds on a big, strong frame for his age. Stood out offensively during batting practice when he created loud, hard contact from the left side, driving the ball hard to the pull side. Stays balanced throughout and there’s big power potential to come.
RHP Zachary Hopper
Currently stands at 6-foot, 150 pounds on a tall, projectable frame. Hopper shows an above average command of the strike zone for his age, filling it up and staying balanced throughout his delivery. Ran his fastball up to 78 mph and there’s plenty more in the tank. Young arm to watch closely that projects to make multiple jumps.
C/RHP Eli Fleming
Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds on a taller, projectable frame. Simple, confident approach from the right side and showed a feel for the breel, driving several pitched deep into left field. Much more power to come as he matures. Also clocked in at 7.03 seconds for his 60 yard dash time.
OF/RHP Dillon Smalley
Currently stands at 6-foot, 140 pounds on a long, lean frame. Present bat speed from the right side, still plenty of room to fill out which should translate to jumps in power. Defensively, he takes efficient routes to the ball and gets behind his throws which were accurate to the bag.
C/3B Michael Kalinich
Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 142 pounds on a lean, frame. Drove the ball back up the middle multiple times during batting practice, displayed above average bat speed from the left side. Ball comes off the bat with intent when he utilizes his lower half.
