2019 Florida Diamond Club Classic Game 3 Recap

2019 Florida Diamond Club Classic Game 3 Recap

Below are some of the standouts from the third game of the Florida Diamond Club Classic which was played on Saturday afternoon between the West (Yankees) and North (Red Sox)

NORTH (RED SOX)

2020 IF Colby Halter (Bishop Kenny HS)
Florida commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds with an athletic frame and strong lower half. Halter had quite a summer offensively, including for Team USA, and continued to show why he is one of the top hitters in the state over the weekend. Consistently finds the barrel from the left side and the bat stays in the zone for a long time, allowing him to drive it the other way which was seen when he started off the game with a leadoff triple on a ball that was hit deep into the left field corner. Shows above average instincts and always seems to be in the right position. Shows range and fields the ball under control up the middle with an above average arm across the diamond. Also has been in the low 90s on the mound. Strong follow.

2020 IF Wyatt Langford (Trenton HS)
Florida commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds on a physical, athletic frame. Langford was another offensive standout over the summer as he really can drive the ball with intent gap-to-gap with some present power. Barreled it up several times during each of his rounds during batting practice for hard hit balls. Creates loud, hard contact and stays balanced throughout.

2020 IF TJ McCants (Pensacola Catholic)
Mississippi commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds on a long, lean, athletic frame. Stood out offensively especially during batting practice where he showed some juice from the left side, taking several over the right field well during his rounds. Creates leverage with his long levers and with the room to add to his frame, there’s more power to come. Hands are quick through the zone. Above average runner.

2020 IF Sterlin Thompson (North Marion HS)
Stetson commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds with a long, lean frame. Offensively, he shows above average bat speed from the left side and when he utilizes his lower half can go gap-to-gap with intent while also showing some pull side pop. Takes a smart at-bat. There’s still plenty to add to his frame though so look for a jump in power down the line. Fields the ball with confidence with accurate throws to the bag.

2020 OF Jahlani Rogers (East Ridge HS)
Florida Gulf Coast commit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds on a physical frame with a strong lower half. Rogers made his presence felt offensively when he crushed a ball over the left-center field wall for a no-doubter two-run home run. He knew it right off the bat and the ball left in a hurry with lots of carry to it. Creates loud, hard contact when he squares it up with some present power from the right side. Strong hands through the zone. Defensively, he shows solid actions in the outfield with an above average arm that shows carry on his throws in.

2020 RHP Austin Amaral (University Orange City HS)
Stetson commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds with an athletic frame. Simple windup with a longer arm swing, worked mostly at 89-92 mph, touching 93 while also mixing in a 74-76 mph curveball with shape and a 82-83 mph changeup. Threw strikes and mixed up his pitches well. Velocity was still 89-91 from the stretch and gets extension out in front on his delivery.

2020 RHP Shawn Gulliams (The Villages Charter)
North Florida commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds on a lean frame with room to fill out. Quick arm from the right side and looked to jump on hitters with his fastball. Mostly sat 89-90 mph, touching 91 while mixing in a slider that showed some late life at 79-80 mph. With the projection he still has in frame, look to see an uptick in velocity from Gulliams.

WEST (YANKEES)

2020 IF Blake Wright (Clearwater Central Catholic)
Clemson commit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 185 pounds with an athletic frame. As mentioned previously, Wright was one of the top standouts on the weekend and continued to make an impact offensively during the game when he ripped a ball back up the middle for a line drive single. The confidence at the plate is very evident.

2020 IF Brock Wilken (Bloomingdale HS)
Wake Forest commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds on a tall, physical frame. Wilken followed up his strong Friday night with another hit during the day on Saturday as well, driving a ball into right-center field for a single. He wasn’t able to get all of it, but was still strong enough to fight it off for a base hit.

2020 C Jackson Miller (JW Mitchell HS)
Wake Forest commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds with a strong, athletic frame. Miller again showed his ability to go gap-to-gap during the game when he drove a ball the other way for an RBI single into the left-center field gap. Balanced approach from the left side and can utilize his lower half for power.

2020 RHP Josh Mallitz (Jesuit HS)
Mississippi commit. Tall, long, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. Long limbs with plenty of room to still fill out. Fastball mostly sat 88-90 mph, touching 91 while mixing in a 75-76 mph slurvy breaking ball and a 82-83 mph changeup. Shows a command of the zone and works down in the zone. Expect to see a jump in velocity from Mallitz in the future as he strengthens his frame.
