Castellano Fans 15 as Jesuit Dominates Calvary Christian 10-1

It was a night that these two teams had been waiting for as the 20-1 Tampa Jesuit Tigers hosted the 17-4 Calvary Christian Warriors. Two well known D1 arms went at it as 2021 LHP Dominic Castellano (UCF) started for Jesuit while 2021 RHP Jack Cebert (USF) got the start for Calvary Christian.

Calvary Christian struck first in the top of the 1st inning with a solo shot from 2023 NC State Commit Landen Maroudis, but Dominic Castellano was on complete cruise control right after. Castellano struck out the side in the second inning, which gave the Tigers a momentum swing after an RBI Single from 2023 Vanderbilt commit Wes Mendes that drove in 2021 Nick Rodriguez. The Tigers were just getting started.

Rodriguez broke the 1-1 tie with a single to center field that scored Tulane Commit and 2021 graduate BJ Graham in the bottom of the 3rd. 2022 Jack Martinez added to that lead with a 2 run RBI single with 2 outs that extended the lead to 4-1, and some miscommunication in the infield from the Warriors drove 2 more runners in which gave the Tigers a 6-1 lead.

Dominic Castellano was the spotlight of last night's game as he did not allow a single hit after the homerun, in fact he struck out 15 Warriors, followed by 2021 UNC Signee Alden Segui who struck out the side to close out the game. Castellano’s velocity was well maintained throughout his 6 innings of work, as he sat 86-89 mph with a 12/6 CV around 70-74 mph. Alden Segui brought the heat into the 7th as he sat 92-94 and topped at 95 mph along with an 80-81 mph sharp slider. The two arms set a school record of a combined 18 strikeouts as the Tigers took this one from the Warriors with the final score of 10-1.

Top Performers

2021 LHP Dominic Castellano (Jesuit)
6'0 185 Frame, was on absolute cruise control last night. 15 strikeouts in 6 innings with 92 pitches. Also with an exceptional 74% strike percentage. Kept hitters off balance all night and lots of swings and misses. Worked both sides of the plate. FB showed some late tilt, with good break to the CV, which sat around 67-70, along with an 86-89 mph FB. UCF Commit

2021 RHP Alden Segui (Jesuit)
6'3 200 Frame, lively arm of 92-95 mph. Some funk in his mechanics, good movement to the FB. Slider was the ultimate knockout pitch, sitting 80-81. Allowed only 1 walk and struck out the side to close out the game. UNC commit.

2023 OF/LHP Wes Mendes (Jesuit)
Went 2-3 at the plate last night with 2 RBI's. Smooth and compact swing and showed lots of athleticism. Strong arm as well out in the outfield and on the mound as well, though he did not pitch last night. Great add to the Vanderbilt Commodores recruiting class and he will be very exciting to watch.

2021 OF BJ Graham (Jesuit)
Went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Good pop off the bat and showed good speed around the bases. Tracks the ball well out in the outfield, followed by a strong arm to go with it. Tulane Signee. Very projectable and more room to fill.

2023 Landen Maroudis (Calvary Christian)
6'2 170 frame has a very high ceiling with more room to fill out with further development. Outstanding pop off the bat with very fast hands at the plate as well. Strong arm out in the field as well. Hit a solo shot in the first inning. NC State commit will be a very exciting follow.
