Below are the Top 10 performers chosen by our scouting staff who stood out throughout the event. We’d also like to congratulate all of the players in the SFCBL who earned a spot in All-Star game.
OF TJ McKenzie (Boynton Beach Buccaneers)
Vanderbilt. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds on a lean, muscular frame with above average athleticism. McKenzie put on a show early on in the day as he captured the 2021 Home Run Derby title, showing off present power and driving the ball with intent over the wall. The hands are fast through the zone and creates backspin. The ball really jumps off the bat. During batting practice he drove the ball deep into the gaps. Registered a base hit during gameplay. Above average arm from the outfield as well with throws that have carry and accuracy. McKenzie still has some room to fill out on his frame with multiple above average tools that translate in the game. Very strong follow.
RHP Chris Seymour (Boynton Beach Buccaneers)
Florida Gulf Coast. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds on an athletic frame that projects to still fill out. Displayed a big arm during gameplay where he ran his fastball up to 95 mph. Works out of a deliberate, over the top windup with a quick arm that jumps on the batter. Mostly sat 93-95 while mixing in a wipeout slider that sat 80-83 mph with up to 2338 RPM. Struck out multiple batters in his inning of work and generated lots of swings and misses. There’s more in the tank too. Earned MVP honors for the North division during the All-Star game. Very strong follow.
C Brooks Bryan (West Boca Snappers)
Charleston Southern. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds with a physical lower half and present strength throughout. Earned MVP honors for the South division during the All-Star game. Offensively, he works from a wide base and has quick, strong hands through the zone that find the barrel consistently. Creates loud, hard contact and can really drive the ball with intent. Defensively, he shows the ability to receive well, keep the ball in front of him.
RHP Matthew Boynton (Palm Beach Xtreme)
Murray State. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds on a projectable frame. Really impressed during his inning of work where he struck out the side. Loose, quick arm with an effortless delivery that produced a fastball that sat 89-91 mph, touching 92 with up to 2529 RPM. Also mixed in a 78-79 mph changeup that showed fade. There’s much more in the tank for Boynton as he fills out his frame. The fastball can really induce swings and misses with a very high spin rate. Very strong follow.
OF Marcos Sevillano (West Boca Snappers)
Seminole State. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds on an athletic frame with some physicality in his lower half. Displayed easy bat speed from the left side during batting practice where he drove the ball gap-to-gap with several hard hit line drives right back up the middle. This translated to the game where he delivered a base hit by driving the ball the other way for a line drive single. Sevillano seems to frequently reach base safely with a quality at-bat.
RHP Nathan Rintz (Delray Beach Lightning)
Arkansas. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds on an athletic frame with long limbs. Still some room to fill out. Sat 88-90 mph with his fastball that w/las up to 2313 RPM. Also mixed in a 76-77 mph slider and an 80-82 mph changeup with fade. Works quickly and looks to get ahead early in the count with first pitch strikes.
RHP Nick Del Prado (West Boca Snappers)
Florida Atlantic. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 235 pounds on a tall, strong frame. Creates downhill action and throws a heavy fastball. Sat 88-90 mph, touching 91 with up to 2269 RPM during his inning of work. Also flashed a 76-77 mph slider and an 80-81 mph changeup. Worked low and away while using his off-speed stuff to compliment the fastball.
C Humberto Torres Jr. (Phipps Park Barracudas)
Gardner-Webb. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 205 on a strong, compact frame. Was able to show some present pull side pop as a participant in the Home Run Derby when he drove several over the left field wall during his first couple rounds. Simple approach and looks to drive the ball out in front, utilize his lower half for additional power. Behind the plate he has an above average arm and sticks pitches with strong wrists.
RHP Trevor Hanselman (Pompano Beach Clippers)
East Tennessee State. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a lean, athletic frame that still has room to fill out. Breezed through his inning of work where he induced multiple swings and misses with both the fastball and slider. Fastball sat in the 88-91 mph range while the slider was above average and displayed late action at 77-78 mph. The arm works free and easy, there’s more to come as he continues to fill out. Strong follow.
1B Ryne Guida (Florida Pokers)
Indian River State. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds on a big frame. Guida was another Home Run Derby participant who showed big power, especially to the pull side as he sent several way over the left field wall. The ball really jumps off the bat when he’s on time and he’s suited to drive in dozens of runs in the heart of the lineup. Has the chance to change the game with one swing. During gameplay he was able to drive the ball the other way as well, producing a base hit.
