Palm Beach State College Scout Day Standouts

Palm Beach State College Scout Day Standouts

This past Thursday, players from the Palm Beach State College team went through a pro-style workout which consisted of the 60 yard dash, batting practice, and infield/outfield followed by a game.

Below are several standouts from the workout portion as well as the game with a brief report on each:

IF Edinson Renteria Jr.
Physical frame, especially in the lower half with present strength. Drove the ball gap-to-gap with intent during batting practice, showing pull side pop as well. Above average bat speed from the right side and works in rhythm. Above average arm with accurate throws to the bag from third.

OF Brandon Noriega
Had one of the more impressive days. Long, lean frame with above average bat speed from the left side, shows some pull side pop. There’s more power to come as he strengthens his frame. Also displayed strong, accurate throws from right field to home during I/O. Drove one one back up the middle for a single in his first at-bat during the game.

RHP Yordy Cabrera
Strong 6-foot-1, 210 pound frame. Displayed a quick arm where he was up to 92 mph in his inning of work. Was mostly 88-91 with his fastball while also mixing in an 82-83 mph slider with depth. Worked down in the zone.

IF Jordan Mercado
Looks to have become more physical over the past few months. Took an impressive few rounds of batting practice where he consistently found the barrel and sprayed the ball deep into the gaps. Above average defender as well.

IF Isaac Marte
Compact frame with quick hands. Took a couple of loud rounds of batting practice, showing present power to the pull side. Ball really jumps off the bat when he squares it up. Above average arm defensively, plays with high energy.

LHP Gavin Gillespie
Tall, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Loose, easy working arm. Fastball mostly sat 85-87 mph with run while mixing in a 75-76 mph changeup with sink. Induced multiple swings and misses. More in the tank.

C Michael Machin
Physical frame and stays balanced throughout offensively. During batting practice he made loud, hard contact driving the ball deep into the gaps.

C Tyler Copeland
Lean frame with more power to come as he fills out. Consistently found the barrel during batting practice, squaring it up for multiple line drives. Quick hands through the zone.
