Bulldogs Blank Baldwin 8-0 as Baumeister Ks 13

The Bolles Bulldogs took on the visiting Baldwin Indians in a regional quarterfinal matchup that saw the home team take an early lead and never relinquish it. 2021 RHP Jackson Baumeister earned the win, going six innings of no-run ball while striking out 13.

Baumeister featured a fastball that sat 90-93 mph throughout most of the game, touching 94 multiple times and reaching back when he needed it for a strikeout. Also mixed in a 77-78 mph slider and a 74-76 mph curveball. Baumeister started to get in a groove after the first couple innings, striking out the side in multiple innings and not allowing the Baldwin offense to really get anything going. The FSU commit struck out 13, scattered three hits, and walked none in six innings of work.

Offensively, the Bulldogs got strong nights at the plate from 2021 OF Jaden Flowers (TCC commit) who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, 2022 IF Tanner Zellem (Tennessee commit) who went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and 2022 IF/RHP Sullivan Brackin (Florida commit) who went 1-for-4 which included a solo home run.

2021 MIF Gunner Boree (Brown commit) was also an offensive spark for the Bulldogs on the night as he went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs.

With the win, the Bulldogs advance to the regional semi-finals, setting up a pivotal matchup with The Episcopal School next week.

Top Performers

2021 RHP Jackson Baumeister (Bolles HS, FL)
FSU commit. Tall, long frame that projects to continue to fill out. Repeats well and works from an over the head, deliberate windup. Loose, quick arm with extension out in front. Fastball mostly sat in the 90-93 mph range, touching 94 multiple times. Sat 90-92 in the later innings but still reached back when he needed it. Also mixed in a 77-78 mph slider and a 74-76 mph curveball with depth. Was able to generate plenty of swings and misses, especially in the later innings as he racked up thirteen strikeouts in six innings. When Baumeister gets in a groove, he shows an above average command of the zone and can put away the lineup in a hurry. He’s recently been up to 95 and there’s still more in there. Continues to be a very strong follow leading up to the draft and will get another chance to showcase himself next week in the regional semi-finals.

2021 OF Jaden Flowers (Bolles HS, FL)
TCC commit. Athletic frame with present strength throughout. Had a strong night at the plate out of the cleanup spot where he went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. The hands are quick through the zone and when he’s on time, can drive the ball with intent. Above average runner as well. Shows range and gets to his spots in the outfield.

2022 IF/RHP Sullivan Brackin (Bolles HS, FL)
Florida commit. Tall, athletic frame with some physicality, still room to fill out. During one of his at-bats, Brackin crushed a no-doubter solo home run over the right field wall. Above average bat speed from the left side. Also has run it up to 93 mph on the mound, above average runner. Lots of athleticism and the ability to really make an impact as a two-way player.

2022 IF Tanner Zellem (Bolles HS, FL)
Tennessee commit. Strong frame with plenty of juice in his bat. Creates loud, hard contact and can really square the ball up with intent when he’s on time. Had a standout night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Big power potential, especially to the pull side. Suited to drive in plenty of runs at the heart of the order.

2021 OF Jackson Mayo (Bolles HS, FL)
USF commit. Athletic frame with a strong lower half. Generates above average bat speed from the left side with fast hands through the zone. During one of his at-bats he laced a ball deep into the right field corner for a standup double. Crushed one just foul in a previous at-bat which displayed present pull side power. Above average runner who makes a hard turn rounding the bases, gets good jumps.

2021 MIF Gunner Boree (Bolles HS, FL)
Brown commit. Strong lower half with above average athleticism, quick hands in the box. Jumps all over the fastball and works gap-to-gap, looking to use his speed to turn it into an extra base hit. Top of the lineup hitter than can get the offense rolling. Went 2-for-3 on the night with a double, stolen base, and two runs scored.
