Nadeau Homers Twice as Bears Roll to 7-2 Victory Over Bishop Kenny
Last night the Bartram Trail Bears took on the Bishop Kenny Crusaders in the Game of the Week at Fletcher Morgan Park in Jacksonville, FL. The Bears took an early 1-0 lead off of 2022 IF Justin Nadeau’s solo home run in the bottom of the 1st and never looked back. While the Crusaders were able to close the deficit later in the game to 3-2, the Bears quickly put four more runs back on the board to take a commanding lead and eventual 7-2 victory.
The Bears offense had production from several players up and down the lineup including 2022 IF Justin Nadeau as he went 2-for-2 with two solo home runs, 2 RBIs, and three runs scored. The Jacksonville commit started the scoring early on for the Bears and kept the offense rolling throughout the game.
Uncommitted 2022 IF Alex Lodise chipped in on the offensive side for the Bears as well as he laced a ball back up the middle for a two-run single in the bottom of the 3rd. 2024 IF Kolt Myers and 2022 OF Shane McLaughlin helped poured it on for the Bears late in the game as Myers ripped a ball into left-center field for an RBI double while McLaughlin delivered an RBI single to right field.
2024 RHP Schuyler Sandford earned the win for the Bears as he went 4.1 innings pitched, allowing two runs with 2 Ks. 2023 RHP Bear Thompson and 2022 RHP Bryce Kemper came in for relief and shut down the Crusaders the rest of the way, preserving the 7-2 victory.
2022 OF Andrew Tabor (Bishop Kenny HS, FL) went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI at the top of the lineup for the Crusaders. 2023 C Mason Terry (Bishop Kenny HS, FL) also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
For the Bears, they move to an impressive 11-2 on the year while the Crusaders fell to 6-6.
Players of the Game
2022 IF Justin Nadeau (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Jacksonville commit. Had a standout night at the plate as he delivered two solo home runs, one over the right field wall and one over the right-center field wall. Easy bat speed from the left side and consistently finds the barrel for loud, hard contact. The hands work free and easy through the zone and stays balanced throughout his swing. Impact bat at the top of the lineup who will continue to be a strong offensive follow.
2022 IF Alex Lodise (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Lean, athletic frame with room to still fill out. Above average bat speed from the right side and roped a ball back up the middle for a two-run single during one of his at-bats. There’s more power to come as he continues to fill out his frame which will result in additional extra base hits with balls hit deep into the gaps. Lodise shouldn’t be uncommitted for too much longer as his bat can make an impact the next level.
2024 RHP Schuyler Sandford (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
FSU commit. Tall, projectable frame that will continue to fill out and strengthen as he continues to mature. Featured a fastball that sat 86-88 mph while also mixing in a 77-78 mph slider and 79-81 mph changeup. While Sanford didn’t have his best stuff on the night, he was able to get out of several jams and earn the win. High ceiling arm.
2024 IF Kolt Myers (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic frame with some present strength throughout. Was able to drive a ball deep into left-center field for an RBI double during one of his at-bats. Works from a wide stance in the box, quick hands, and looks to impact the baseball with intent. At time can be out in front but when he stays on time he’s able to barrel it up for hard contact. Above average arm as well. Strong follow.
2022 RHP Bryce Kemper (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Jacksonville commit. Athletic frame with a strong lower half. Came in for relief work to close out the game where he featured an 84-86 mph fastball and a nasty 71-72 mph curveball which generated a number of swings and misses. Struck out two.
2022 OF Shane McLaughlin (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Long, lean frame with plenty of room to fill out. Added to the Bears offense late in the game when he drove a ball into right field for a line drive RBI single during his last at-bat. Shows some potential offensively from the left side of the plate with quick hands, some fee for the barrel. There’s more power to come, especially to the pull side as he continues to become more physical.
2022 OF Andrew Tabor (Bishop Kenny HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Compact, athletic frame with a strong lower half. Displayed present bat speed from the left side of the plate as he went 2-for-3 on the night with an RBI which included a line drive single up the middle.
