CBU FL 2022 Summer Tryouts Standouts Part 1

This past weekend CBU Florida held their 2022 Summer Tryouts with close to 350 players from the 2023-2026 classes. CBU Florida which was formed by the merging of Cannons Baseball Academy, Baseball University, and 5 Star Miami has burst onto the scene as one of the top organizations not only in the state of Florida, but nationally as well with dozens of players who go and make an impact at various levels. 

The tryouts took place at the Yankees Spring Training complex and Berkeley Prep in Tampa, FL over three days which included a pro-style workout on Friday, live game play on Saturday, and a combo of both on Sunday. Over the next few days we will be highlighting multiple players from various classes who stood out to our scouting staff over the weekend. 2025 LHP Jackson Hoyt (Nature Coast Tech, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds on a tall, very projectable frame. Easy working arm. Was one of the top 2025 arms in attendance as he showed big potential on the mound, running his fastball up to 88 mph. Mostly pitched at 85-87 and there’s much more to come as the ball comes out of his hand easy. Generated plenty of swings and misses during his outing that resulted in strikeouts. Young arm to follow closely that has all the makings of a high-end arm at the next level. 

2024 MIF Maurice Days Jr. (A3 Trojans Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds on an athletic, projectable frame that will continue to fill out. Above average athlete who displayed fast hands and present pull side juice offensively, driving the ball with intent. Registered a top exit velocity of 94 mph and there’s more power to come. Up the middle, he shows lateral quickness with a strong and accurate arm across the diamond, topping out at 85 mph. Possesses multiple above average tools and will be a strong follow heading into the spring.

2024 OF Matthew Turner (Bishop Verot HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 160 pounds on a compact, athletic frame. Clocked in at 6.77 for his 60 yard dash time. Loose, quick hands offensively that allows him to consistently drive the ball with intent which showed in-game action when he roped one back up the middle for an RBI single. Showed heads up baserunning and took 2B on the throw in. From the outfield he displayed accurate throws with carry from right field, topping out at 84 mph. 

2024 1B Timmy Lawson (Bishop Verot HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds on a big, strong frame. From the left side of the plate offensively he creates lots of loud, hard contact along with present pull side juice. Roped two back-to-back doubles deep into the right-center field gap during game play and registered a top exit velocity of 92 mph. Ball really jumps off the bat, suited to drive in plenty of runs. Up to 83 mph on the mound with a fastball that showed late movement. 

2023 INF Luis Lorenzo (Western HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds on an athletic frame. Loose, quick hands and was able to find the barrel often for deep line drives, including several to left-center field. Registered a top exit velocity of 94 mph. Athletic frame that projects to continue to fill out, see an additional jump in power. Also clocked in at 6.98 for his 60 yard dash time. Strong uncommitted 2023 follow this spring. 

2023 MIF Spencer Butt (American Heritage HS, FL)
Florida State commit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a lean, athletic frame. Easy, athletic actions up the middle defensively with confident hands. Throws across the diamond were accurate and topped out at 89 mph. Offensively, he works in rhythm from the left side of the plate and found the barrel multiple times for line drives back up the middle and into the gaps. Registered a top exit velocity of 91 mph.

2025 OF Nataniel Carroll (Calvary Christian Academy, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds on an athletic frame. Clocked in at 6.97 for his 60 yard dash time. Stood out offensively during batting practice where he drove the ball all over the field with some present feel for the barrel. Simple approach. Defensively he topped out at 85 mph from the outfield and showed above average footwork around the baseball and accuracy on his throws. Strong follow.

2024 OF/RHP Hayden McElreath (Hudson HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Clocked in at 6.96 for his 60 yard dash time. McElreath has a confident approach at the plate offensively that translated in-game action where he got a hold of one and crushed a ball deep into left-center field for a triple. Followed it up in his next at-bat when he ripped a ball into left field for an RBI single. Impact bat that will be a strong follow for the spring.

2025 MIF Nick Osborne (Steinbrenner HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Stood out offensively where he displayed above average bat speed from the right side with some present pull side pop during batting practice. More power to come and the hands are quick through the zone. Translated to in-game action where he roped a standup double down the right field line. 

2026 3B/1B Jonathan Esponda (HIVE Prep, FL)
Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 190 pounds with some present strength throughout. Strong hands through the zone and can manipulate the barrel to drive the ball deep into the outfield. Uses his strong lower half to impact the ball. This translated in-game where he laced a ball into deep left-center field for a standup double. Young bat to follow that could be a middle of the order type hitter. 

2023 1B/OF Bradley Bloxsom (Land O’ Lakes HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with present physicality. Put on a show in his rounds of batting practice where he displayed present power, hitting three pitches deep over the left field wall with a top exit velocity of 98 mph. Swings with lots of intent and looks to impact the baseball with strong, fast hands through the zone. Big power potential and a 2023 that needs to be followed closely this spring. 

2023 C Brian Perez (Miami Coral Park HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds with a stronger lower half. Offensively he put on an impressive showing during batting practice, driving the ball deep into the gaps which included one over the left field wall. Registered a top exit velocity of 93 mph and the ball really jumps off the bat when he’s on time. Above average arm from behind the plate with pop times in the 1.93-1.99 secs range.

2024 OF Ian Hurt (Pine Crest HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 165 pounds on a compact, athletic frame. Showed his above average speed when he clocked in at 6.76 for his 60 yard dash time. Stood out with the bat as well from the left side of the plate as he worked in rhythm, showed some feel for the barrel by driving the ball back up the middle and the other way. Quick hands through the zone. This translated to in-game action when he laced a ball deep into the left-center field gap for a standup double. 

2024 RHP Patrick Sullivan (Stoneman Douglas HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds on a projectable frame that will continue to fill out. Loose, quick arm with more in the tank. Generated multiple swings and misses during his outing on the mound where he featured a fastball that sat 83-86 mph with life. Also mixed in an above average 72-74 mph curveball with depth. Pounded the strike zone.

2025 OF Zackery Mabee (Alonso HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 140 pounds with present athleticism. Clocked in at 6.90 for his 60 yard dash time. Really stood out all throughout the weekend as he displayed an above average arm from the outfield, topping out at 84 mph with carry. Offensively, he drove several pitches hard into the right-center field gap during batting practice with some present feel for the barrel. Top of the order type hitter.
