CBU FL 2022 Summer Tryouts Standouts Part 2

This past weekend CBU Florida held their 2022 Summer Tryouts with close to 350 players from the 2023-2026 classes. CBU Florida which was formed by the merging of Cannons Baseball Academy, Baseball University, and 5 Star Miami has burst onto the scene as one of the top organizations not only in the state of Florida, but nationally as well with dozens of players who go and make an impact at various levels. 

The tryouts took place at the Yankees Spring Training complex in Tampa, FL and stretched over three days which included a pro-style workout on Friday, live game play on Saturday, and a combo of both on Sunday. Over the next few days we will be highlighting multiple players from various classes who stood out to our scouting staff over the weekend. Below is Part 2 of the Standouts breakdown which features a detailed report on 15 players.

2024 MIF/RHP Antonio Socarras (Coral Reef HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds on an athletic frame with present strength throughout and a stronger lower half. Socarras was one of the top standouts at the tryouts, showing real potential as a legit two-way. Athletic frame with present physicality. Offensively, he has fast hands and a present feel for the barrel which allows him to drive the ball deep into the gaps and hard back up the middle. Up to 95 mph across the diamond with smooth, confident hands defensively. On the mound he was up to 89 mph and flashed an above average slider as well. Socarras also has great bloodlines and is one of the top 2024s to follow heading into the spring HS season.

2024 MIF/RHP Chayce Kieck (Bolles HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds on a projectable, athletic frame. Kieck has continued to make some noticeable jumps in his overall game and he put that on display this past weekend. The arm strength has trended upward and across the diamond was up to 89 mph with on-line and accurate throws. Moves well laterally and displays confident hands up the middle. On the mound, he sat 84-87 mph with his fastball that showed run along with a mid 70s above average slider with late movement. Offensively he works in rhythm from the right side of the plate and trusts his hands to drive the ball gap-to-gap, registering a top exit velocity of 92.5 mph. Kieck is a very strong follow heading into this spring with two-way potential.

2025 MIF/OF Cal Johnson (A3 Trojans Academy, FL) 
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a stronger lower half and an athletic frame that will continue to fill out. The switch-hitting middle infielder is an impact bat at the top of the order that can drive in runs, consistently get on base. The hands work free and easy from both sides of the plate and he drives the ball gap-to-gap from both sides as well, staying balanced throughout. Top exit velocity of 90 mph. This translated to in-game action when he went the other way from the left side of the plate, driving the ball to left field for a single. Smooth, confident actions up the middle defensively and topped out at 81 mph across the diamond. Young switch hitting middle infielder that will be a strong follow moving forward.

2025 3B/RHP Mason Denmark (Hernando HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 180 pounds on a projectable, athletic frame. Denmark showed lots of potential as a legit two-way player as he shined in multiple areas. Offensively he displayed some present pop and bat control during his batting practice rounds, staying balanced and driving the ball gap-to-gap. Top exit velocity registered was 92 mph. On the mound he has a loose, quick arm and can really fill up the strike zone. Featured a fastball that sat 83-85 mph, touching 86 with life. Also was up to 88 mph across the diamond during defensive drills. Very strong follow.

2023 1B/RHP Caden McDonald (Sickles HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds on a tall, physical frame. Really stood out offensively when he put on a show during his batting practice rounds, driving several pitches deep over the left-center field wall. Strong hands and a present feel for the barrel allows him to consistently make hard contact and swing with intent. Registered a top exit velocity of 97 mph. Also displayed above average athleticism when he clocked in at 6.81 for his 60 yard dash time. Strong follow.

2023 MIF Keeton Burroughs (Calvary Christian HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Loose, quick hands offensively with a simple approach. During batting practice he showed off some sneaky pop hitting one out down the left field line as well as consistently driving the ball back up the middle. Clocked in at 6.97 for his 60 yard dash time. 

2023 1B/RHP Marlon Bravo Jr (Pace HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds on a big, physical frame. Lots of present strength and utilizes his strong lower half as well to really drive the ball. Had an impressive couple rounds of batting practice where he drove two pitches over the wall. Swing is short and simple and registered a top exit velocity of 96 mph. Power bat to follow this spring. 

2025 C/OF Jackson Geiger (Seacrest HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds on an athletic frame with some present physicality. Offensively he showed a good line drive approach and is a strong left handed hitter, consistent swing with more power to come. Registered a top exit velocity of 90 mph. From behind the plate his throws down to the bag were accurate and in the 2.07-2.1 range. Young left handed hitting catcher with juice. 

2025 UT/RHP Landon Ide (Bonita Springs HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with present athleticism. Offensively he displays fast hands from the right side of the plate with a present feel for the barrel. Stood out during batting practice as he ripped multiple line drives right back up the middle. This translated to in-game action when he delivered a hard line drive single into center field. 

2025 RHP Sammy Alonso (Terra Environmental HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with some present strength throughout. Put on a strong performance on the mound where he generated lots of swings and misses. Featured a fastball that mostly sat 81-84 mph, touching 85 with run along with a 64-65 mph curveball that showed depth. Ball really jumps out of his hand and struck out multiple batters in his inning of work. Throws a high percentage of first pitch strikes. Very strong follow.

2026 OF Joshua Cespedes (Homeschooled, FL
Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 140 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. The young left handed hitter has a present feel for the barrel with a confident approach in the box, allowing him to find the barrel consistently. More power to come as he fills out, especially to the pull side. This translated to in-game action where he drove a ball deep over the center fielder’s head for a standup double. Registered a top exit velocity of 85 mph. Young bat to follow closely. 

2025 OF/RHP Christopher Hemmings (Jesuit HS, FL) 
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 165 pounds on an athletic, projectable frame. Will continue to add physicality. Hemings was a standout all throughout the weekend as he showed off an above average arm from the outfield, topping out at 87 mph on his throws that were accurate and had carry. Offensively he consistently found the barrel for multiple line drives during batting practice, registering a top exit velocity of 89 mph. Plenty of bat speed. Also hopped on the mound where he ran his fastball up to 83 mph. 

2024 C/OF Parker Turner (Bishop Verot HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds on a big, strong frame. Stood out offensively where he showed the ability to really drive the ball with intent, driving the ball deep into the gaps. This translated to in-game action when he cleared the bases during one of his at-bats when he barreled one deep into right-center field for a standup double. 

2023 OF Jake Carrillo (Wesley Chapel HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds on an extra large, physical frame. Showed off one of the top arms on the weekend defensively when he fired throws into home, topping out at 93 mph. The throws were strong and accurate to the bag. Also displayed above average athleticism when he clocked in a 6.78 for his 60 yard dash time. Offensively he displayed some present bat speed and when on time, really created hard contact that resulted in a top exit velocity of 95.6 mph. Strong follow this spring. 

2024 MIF Frank Avila (Riviera Prep, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 140 pounds on a compact, athletic frame. Started off the day by showing above average athleticism, clocking in at 6.94 for his 60 yard dash time. Offensively he displayed fast hands and stayed balanced throughout his swing which produced lots of line drives during batting practice and looked to work back up the middle. Up the middle he displayed confident hands and his throws across the diamond were accurate and to the bag.
