Fort Pierce Standouts Part 1
This past weekend, teams from the 2021-2023 classes came together in Fort Pierce, FL at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex for the 2019 PGBA Treasure Coast Showdown. Below are notes and reports on the first portion of players that stood on the first day of the event (Saturday)
2022 OF Jacob Delano (Orlando Reds)
Shows some quick hands from the left side, sat back and took one the other way for a line drive single to left field. Still room to fill out.
2022 1B/RHP Dereck Morales (Naturals Florida)
Has a strong, athletic frame and can drive the ball with intent, laced one into left field for a line drive single. Also has shown a quick arm on the mound.
2022 C/1B Ryan Brown (Naturals Florida)
Scorched a ball over the center fielder’s head for an RBI double. He has a long, athletic 6-2, 180 frame with more power to come. Followed it up in his next at-bat by driving a ball into left field for a single. Confident and aggressive approach.
2021 MIF Chris Torres (Naturals Florida)
Displayed athletic actions in the infield with confident hands and an above average arm across the diamond. Lean frame at 6-0, 140.
2023 OF Jaden Huygens (FTB)
Got things going right off the bat with a leadoff single into right field. Huygens shows a balanced approach with quick hands and athleticism out of the leadoff spot. He then followed it up in his next at-bat with an infield single through the right side.
2023 OF Brayden Kintner (FTB)
Showed an above average arm with a pretty impressive throw from left field to gun down the runner at home plate for the out. Shows accuracy with carry.
2022 IF Grayson Dellaporta (Gamblers North 2022)
Laced a ball over the center fielder’s head for an easy standup double. The ball really jumps off the bat, makes hard contact. Continued to stay hot at the plate when he drove one through the left side of the infield for a single.
2022 C Trent Fleischman (Gamblers North 2022)
Aggressive in the box and looks to jump on the fastball. Drove one right back up the middle for a single in his first at-bat. Athletic frame with more power to come as he fills out. Also shows above average defensive actions behind the plate.
2023 LHP Kaiden Perez (FTB)
Perez is an arm to watch moving forward. Loose, quick arm, ball comes out of the hand easy. Mostly sat 74-77 mph with his fastball, touching 78 while mixing in a 66-67 mph curveball. Strike thrower, efficient. Induced multiple swings and misses. Projectable frame. Tossed a complete game shutout where he struck out five, walked none, and scattered five hits
2023 OF Andrew Merchant (FTB)
Laced a ball deep over the left fielder’s head for a triple. Really like his approach and quick hands through the zone. Athletic, looks to turn it into the next gear rounding the bases.
2021 IF William Picchiarini (FTBBullock)
Uncommitted. Drove one over the center fielder’s head for an RBI triple. Long, lean frame with above average bat speed from the right side. More power to come as he fills out. Collected another hit on the day, driving one into left field for a single. Makes hard, solid contact.
2021 MIF Jose Gutierrez (FTB Bullock)
Uncommitted. Really impressed defensively. Light on his feet, takes efficient angles to the ball, makes the off-balanced throws, above average arm, and is a strong defender.
