Huskies Strike in the Seventh to Secure Late Game Victory

Yesterday in an afternoon showdown the Hagerty Huskies visited the University Titans in a matchup that saw the Huskies secure a late 4-3 victory in the 7th inning. 2023 RHP Garrett Baumann threw a complete game and earned the win as he finished the day with 5 K’s on 5 hits surrendered, while throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes. Notable performances at the plate came from 2022 2B/IF Cameron King, 2024 INF Austin Jacobs, and 2021 Util Bryce Fitzgerald.

University got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first with an early 1-0 lead due to 2022 RHP/1B Todd Kniebbe driving a ball into shallow center for an RBI single. The Huskies answered back fast with 2024 IF Austin Jacobs barreling a ball into left field for an RBI single. Hagerty would add to this lead with 2022 C Dylan Post laying down a Sac-bunt, bringing in Jacobs and making the score 2-1.

The University Titans would tie the game off of an error in the very next inning. But the tables would turn in the next inning with Hagerty scoring off of an error as well. In the bottom of the 4th inning University tied the game with Ethan Jones lacing a ball into right field for an RBI single.

The Titans and Huskies battled into the 7th where 2022 3B/1B Dylan Strickland Hit a sac fly deep into center field to bring in Cameron King for the game winning run.

With the win the Huskies moved to 12-11 while the Titans fell to 18-4.

Top Performers

2023 RHP Garrett Baumann (Hagerty HS, FL)
UCF commit. Strong, extra large frame standing at 6-foot-7. Baumann Dominated during his outing throwing a complete game, striking out the last batter to end it. Baumann was able to hold his velocity well into the 5th inning as his fastball sat 87-89 mph with life and showed great feel for his slider, sitting 79-81 mph. He was very efficient, throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes and finishing the day with 5 K’s on 5 hits surrendered.  An uptick in velocity is coming. Big arm to follow.

2022 2B/IF Cameron King (Hagerty HS, FL)
Bethune-Cookman commit. Finished the night going 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored including the game winner, while also adding a stolen base. Above average athlete. Great hitter to have near the top of the order as he consistently gets on base and puts his team in position to score.

2022 RHP/1B Todd Kniebbe (University HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Has a big frame at 6’5 that will continue to fill out and develop. Finished the game 3 K’s and only 2 hits allowed in 2.1 innings of work. Early in the game Kniebbe added an RBI single to get University on the board first.

2024 INF Austin Jacobs (Hagerty HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Has a great feel for finding the barrel of the bat consistently. Jacobs finished at the plate with one run scored and an RBI single. Will be a strong follow as he continues to develop.
