Top Tier Roos Summer 2023 Team Tryouts Standouts Part 2

From December 2nd-4th, the Top Tier Roos held their Summer 2023 Team Tryouts which took place at the Courthouse Performance Center along with the Yankees Spring Training complex in Tampa, FL. Over the three-day stretch players went through bullpens, a pro-style workout, and game action on the final day of the event. With over 300 players in attendance ranging from the 2023-2028 classes, there was plenty of talent all over the field. 

Below is Part 2 of the standouts highlighted from the event that made an impact on our scouting staff and will be strong follows moving forward as we head into the spring season. Part 1 can be found HERE

2023 1B/LHP Jaden Hughes (A3 Academy, FL)

Uncommitted. Tall frame with present physicality, especially in the lower half. Stood out offensively during his batting practice rounds where he showed off present pull side juice, driving the ball with intent deep into right field. Creates hard contact with a level to uphill path through the zone. Left-handed power bat that’s suited to drive in runs. 

2024 OF Reid Poley (Clearwater Central Catholic, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean, athletic frame. Stood out during game action when he collected a base hit by driving the ball the other way into right field with two strikes for a single. Quick, loose hands and stays balanced throughout his swing. Some present feel for the barrel. Expect to see jumps in power as he continues to fill out.

2024 OF/IF Zach Lester (Lakeland Christian, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic frame with present physicality. Offensively he displays above average bat speed from the right side and works gap-to-gap. This translated to game action when he drove a ball into the right-center field gap during one of his at-bats off of low 90s pitching. Above average arm with accuracy to his throws. Strong follow.

2025 OF/RHP Austin Liss (Steinbrenner HS, FL)

Florida State commit. Athletic frame with a stronger lower half. Continues to be a strong follow as the ball really jumps off the bat, was able to drive it all over the field during his batting practice rounds. Quick hands and can barrel it up with consistency. Above average arm strength from the outfield as his throws topped out at 91 mph and showed carry to the bag. Works in the upper 80s on the bump too. 

2025 IF Robby Santana (Jesuit HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Big, strong frame that generates present power. Stood out offensively when he drove multiple pitches deep into right field from the left side during batting practice. Stays direct to the ball and it really jumps off the bat when he’s on time. Power bat to follow moving forward. 

2025 IF Logan Koslin (JW Mitchell HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic with present physicality. Fast, strong hands through the zone offensively that allowed him to produce multiple loud, hard hit line drives during batting practice. Swings with intent to drive the ball, extra base type hitter. Also showed off a strong arm across the diamond during defensive drills. Strong follow. 

2026 1B/RHP Grant Timmons (JW Mitchell HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Stood out as one of the top two-ways for his class over the weekend. Took a pair of very loud rounds of batting practice, driving the ball deep into left field and center field. Ball really jumps off the bat from the right side. On the mound he displayed a quick arm with a fastball that mostly sat 80-82 mph with life (2350+ RPM) Also mixed in a 67-68 mph curveball in his inning of work. More in the tank. Strong follow.

2026 OF Trent Hicks (George Jenkins HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Compact, athletic frame. Hicks continues to stand out offensively as the hands are loose and quick through the zone. Creates plenty of hard contact, producing lots of line drives during his batting practice rounds. Top of the lineup hitter with more power to come.Strong follow.

2026 C Agent Boudi (East Lake HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Really stood out defensively as he kept everything in front of him behind the plate, showed the ability to move laterally. During game action he also gunned down a base runner at 3B. Quick transfer, accurate throw to the bag to get the out. Some present bat speed offensively from the right side of the plate. 

2026 RHP/MIF Cooper Riley (Clearwater Central Catholic, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean, athletic frame that projects, will continue to add strength. During game action he had a clean inning of work on the mound as he sat  79-81 mph with his fastball that showed run. Also mixed in a 73-74 mph changeup and an above average curveball at 67-68 with depth. Present athleticism, quick arm. Strong follow, expect to see jumps. 

2027 MIF Jackson Palmer (East Lake HS, FL)

Lean frame that will continue to see jumps in power as he matures. Stood out during batting practice when he produced lots of line drives with a simple approach to the ball. Stays balanced and had a confident approach. 

2027 IF Samir Mohammed (East Lake HS, FL)

Big, physical frame for his age. Heart of the order type hitter as he showed some present power, creating loud, hard contact off the bat. During batting practice he drove multiple pitches deep into the outfield, generating power from his strong frame. Big power bat potential.
