2020 Power Baseball Tryouts Class of 2021 Standouts

This past weekend Power Baseball held their 2020 Summer Team Tryouts at the Turn 2 Sports and Performance Center along with Rollins College over a three day stretch which included bullpens Friday night, pro-style workout on Saturday, and games on Sunday. Power Baseball has quickly become not only one of the top organizations in Florida, but nationally as well. With over 280 players in attendance at the tryouts, there were dozens of players who stood out and made an impact throughout the weekend.

Over the next several days we will be breaking down the standouts from throughout the weekend by grad class. Tonight we begin with 15+ standouts from the 2021 Class:

OF Sammy Lake 
Florida Gulf Coast commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 183 pounds with a projectable, athletic frame. During batting practice he showed present pull side pop, driving the ball to deep left and left center field. Expect to see jumps in power as he continues to fill out. Crushed one deep over the center fielder’s head for a standup double during the game. Above average runner, clocking in at 6.79 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Topped out at 83 mph from the outfield. Lots of upside, strong follow. 

OF Kenny Eccleston 
Miami commit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds on a loose, athletic frame. Displays easy bat speed from the left side, looks to drive the ball gap-to-gap. More power to come as he adds to his frame. Present athleticism, clocked in at 6.99 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. During the game he drove one the other way for a single in his first at-bat of the day. Topped out at 82 mph from the outfield with accurate throws to the bag. 

MIF Justin Colon
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds on an athletic frame with a stronger lower half, and shows advanced actions. Laced one down the left field line for an easy standup double during the game. Confident approach with a present feel for the barrel from the right side. Very strong follow with still more to come from a projection standpoint. 

OF Victor Diaz
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds on a tall, athletic frame. Loose, quick hands.and found the barrel consistently during batting practice. Gap-to-gap power potential. Also showed an above average arm from the outfield, topping out at 87 mph. Clocked in with one of the quicker 60 yard dash times on the day at 6.76 seconds. Plenty of upside offensively, will be a strong uncommitted follow heading into the spring.

RHP/IF Bryce Braxton
Florida Atlantic commit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 205 pounds on a physical, athletic frame. During bullpens he sat 88-89 mph with his fastball with plenty of life. Also worked in an 84-85 mph changeup with fade, 80-82 mph slider with late movement. Still more in the tank. Offensively, he creates loud, hard contact with juice from the right side of the plate. 

C/OF Easton LaPlaca 
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with an athletic frame. Grinder who can make an impact at multiple spots on the field. Offensively, he displayed an aggressive approach from the left side, the ball really jumps off the bat when he squares it up. Showed off an above average arm with carry and accuracy on his throws during defensive drills as well. Up to 83 mph fastball on the mound. Strong uncommitted follow. 

RHP/MIF Nathan Tinder
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds on a tall, athletic frame with projection. Sat 85-87 mph with his fastball while mixing in a 78-79 mph changeup and a 72-73 mph curveball. Showed a feel for the breaking ball. Also clocked in at 6.98 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. There’s more in the tank for Tinder and expect to see some jumps in velocity relatively soon. 

MIF Marcus O’ Malley
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds on an athletic frame with strength throughout. Shows a balanced approach from the left side with quick hands through the zone. Drove the ball gap-to-gap during batting practice, shows a present feel for the barrel from the left side. Confident approach in the box. 

LHP Jacob Marlowe
Florida Gulf Coast commit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 140 pounds with a lean, projectable frame. Sat 81-83 mph with his fastball during bullpens while mixing in a changeup that had similar arm speed at 72-74 mph. There’s plenty more to velocity to come as he fills out. Knows how to pitch, fills up the zone. 

RHP/IF Hunter French
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 180 pounds with strength throughout. Quick arm, sat 83-85 mph fastball, touching 86. Also mixed in a 71-73 mph curveball with depth, generating some swings and misses along with a 74-75 mph changeup. Topped out at 81 mph across the infield as well. 

OF Kade Faircloth
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds with physicality. Strong hands through the zone with a feel for the barrel. During the game he roped a ball back up the middle for a line drive single in his first at-bat of the day. Makes hard contact when he squares it up. Clocked in at 6.98 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Topped out at 82 mph from the outfield. 

C/RHP Connor Hensley
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 182 pounds on a tall frame with a stronger lower half. During bullpens he sat 82-84 mph with his fastball, touching 85. Also mixed in a 71-72 mph curveball and a 74-75 mph changeup. Shows upside on the mound with more velocity to come as he fills out and refines his mechanics.

IF Khadin Bastian 
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 160 pounds on a lean frame. Stood out offensively where he showed quick hands, especially from the left side where he drove multiple balls into right field during batting practice. 

IF Timo Aracena
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 173 pounds on an athletic frame, stronger lower half. Shows an easy swing from the right side of the plate where he displayed gap-to-gap potential. Quick hands from the left side, should see a jump in power as he becomes more fluid through the zone. Drove one through the right side of the infield for a single in his second at-bat during the game. Sure handed defender with accurate throws to the bag. 

IF Michael Sowers
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 150 pounds. Took a couple strong rounds of batting practice, showing a confident approach with a feel for the barrel. Sprayed multiple line drives gap-to-gap. Above average runner, clocked in at 6.84 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Also displayed confident hands, makes the plays defensively. 

OF/LHP Grayson Adams
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 195 pounds with a physical frame. Made lots of loud contact from the left side during batting practice. Ripped multiple line drives back up the middle and to the pull side. On the mound he sat 81-83 mph with his fastball, touched 84. Also mixed in a 64-65 mph curveball and a 72-73 mph changeup. 

IF Cade Haddix
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 185 pounds. Stood out offensively during batting practice where he displayed  above average bat speed, finding the barrel for multiple line drives into the left-center field gap. 

C Mark Gibas
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds with a strong lower half. Was able to utilize his lower half and drive the ball gap-to-gap during batting practice. Quick hands and stays balanced throughout.
