Brackin Homers, Baumeister Goes the Distance as Bolles Advances to Regional Final

Last night the Bolles Bulldogs hosted the Episcopal Eagles in a regional semifinal matchup that saw the home team come away with a close 3-1 victory. The Bulldogs got another strong outing from their ace in 2021 RHP Jackson Baumeister who tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts along with 2022 IF Sullivan Brackin who delivered a key solo home run late in the game.

Baumeister came out of the gate firing in the 1st as he worked a 1-2-3 inning, sitting 92-94 mph with his fastball, touching 95, striking out two. The Bulldogs would provide Baumeister an early lead as 2021 OF Jackson Mayo started the game off with a single, later to be scored on an error in the field. The Bulldogs then tacked on an additional run by way of a bases loaded walk, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Baumeister pretty much sat 90-93 the rest of the way, reaching back for a 94 or 95 when he needed it, especially on a strikeout. Also mixed in a 77-79 mph slider, a 74-76 mph curveball, and occasionally a low 80s changeup. Baumeister cruised until the sixth (took a No-Hitter into the 5th) when a runner reached on a base hit only to then score on an error in the field, closing the gap to 2–1.

2022 IF Sullivan Brackin came through again though and in the bottom of the 6th launched a solo home run to right center field, pushing their lead back to two and making it 3-1. The Florida commit has shown consistent power lately, homering in back to back weeks.

Sensing the finish line, Baumeister went back out for the 7th and after walking the leadoff batter, locked in and struck out the next two batters which included a fastball at 93. The Florida State commit then got the final batter to ground out, ending the game and giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 victory.

For the Episcopal Eagles, while 2021 LHP Dillion Haines took the loss, the Stetson commit put in a gritty effort. After giving up the two early runs in the first, Haines kept the Bulldogs off the board for the next four innings. He featured a fastball that malty sat 87-89 mph while mixing in a 75-77 mph curveball.

With the win, the Bolles Bulldogs advance to the regional final.

Top Performers

2021 RHP Jackson Baumeister (Bolles HS, FL)
Florida State commit. Baumeister again turned in a strong effort, going the distance and striking out 12 in a complete game effort. Sat 92-94 mph, touching 95 with his fastball early on before settling in at 90-93 the rest of the way. Reached back and touched 94, 95 frequently throughout the game when he needed it. Mixed in a 77-79 mph slider with late action along with a 74-76 mph curveball that showed 12/6 break, depth. Occasionally mixed in an 81-83 mph changeup. Works at his own pace and controls the game on the mound. Also showed some fire and emotion late in the game on some big strikeouts. Allowed one run on two hits while taking a No-Hitter into the 5th inning. Baumeister continues to deal week in, week out. He’ll get the ball again next week for a chance to send his team to States. Very strong national draft follow.

2022 IF/RHP Sullivan Brackin (Bolles HS, FL)
Florida commit. Brackin has now shown his present power in back to back weeks, delivering deep home runs to right and right center field during regional action. Tall, athletic frame that finds the barrel from the left side for loud, hard contact that can do damage in the heart of the order. Level to uphill path through the zone with fast hands. Strong two-way follow who is in the low 90s on the mound.

2021 LHP Dillon Haines (Episcopal School, FL)
Stetson commit. Lean, athletic frame. Works with an up-tempo pace and looks to jump on the batter quick. While he gave up two early runs, Haines really settled in and went to work against the Bolles lineup, keeping them off the board of four straight innings after the 1st. Featured a fastball that mostly sat 87-89 mph with life along with an above average 75-77 mph curveball with hard break, spin. Competes every pitch and challenges the hitter.
