Lake Myrtle Standouts Part 2
Over the weekend 30+ teams from the Upperclass and Underclass divisions ranging from the 2020-2024 classes competed in Auburndale, FL. Below are 15 standouts from the second day of the event (Sunday) with a brief report on each:
2021 RHP/MIF Yoskar Lopez (Midland Swarm)
Came in for relief throwing mostly fastballs, sitting 85-87 mph, touching 88 while mixing in a 80-81 mph changeup. Throws from a low ¾ slot and creates some natural movement on his on his pitches. Fastball has lots of late life. Struck out the side in his first inning of work. Good follow.
2021 OF Cooper Massey (Under Armour Legends)
The uncommitted outfielder shows above average bat speed from the left side, looks to drive the ball with intent. Lean, athletic frame at 6-foot, 155 pounds. Crushed a ball over the right fielder’s head for a two-run double during one of his early at-bats. Followed it up in his next at-bat with another loud extra base hit as he drove one deep over the right fielder’s head again for a triple. Finds the barrel from the left side and can really square it up.
2023 MIF/RHP Michael Brazer (FTB)
Loose, athletic frame that stands at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Plenty more to come as he matures and strengthens his frame. Laced a ball into the left-center field gap for a single during one of his at-bats and then stole second on the next pitch. Quick hands offensively and shows easy actions up the middle. Also displays a quick arm and command of the zone on the mound. Strong follow.
2023 MIF Jacob Meyerer (Power Baseball)
Really liked the confidence he showed at the plate out of the leadoff spot. Simple approach with a feel for the barrel from the right side. Drove one down the left field line for a single during one of his at-bats. Athletic frame that will only see overall improvements to his game and he continues to strengthen and mature.
2020 OF Armando Ramirez (Action Force Baseball)
Showed the ability to go the other way multiple times throughout the weekend. Drove one deep over the left fielder’s head for an easy standup double during his last game of the day. Above average bat speed from the left side with strong hands through the zone. Uncommitted bat to follow.
2021 3B Ramziel Ortiz (CSB Florida)
Showed quick hands through the zone and stays balanced throughout. Laced one through the left side of the infield for a single in his first at-bat of the day after crushing a ball foul over the left field wall on the previous pitch. Present feel for the barrel.
2021 C/OF Michael Rivera (CSB Florida)
Lean, compact frame. Made loud, hard contact from the left side with easy bat speed. Squared one up and drove it over the right fielder’s head for an easy standup double during one of his at-bats. Loose hands in the box.
2023 C/IF Jace Cleveland (Midland Swarm)
Continued to have a standout weekend offensively. After driving in multiple runs the day before, he laced a ball to left field in his first at-bat of the day for a line drive single. Followed it up by driving a ball over the right fielder’s head for a loud double in a later at-bat. Young bat to follow.
2021 MIF Garrett Glasgow (Game Time Prospects)
Made an impact offensively with multiple base hits on the day. Above average bat speed from the right side on a projectable frame with more power to come. Scorched a ball down the left field line for a standup double and then followed it up by lacing a hard hit line drive to left field for a single.
2020 C/1B Sebastian Martinez (FIGS Farm Upperclass)
Present strength from the left side offensively. Laced a ball to right field for a line drive single during one of his at-bats. Ball really jumped off the bat with loud contact.
2022 RHP Vincent Valente (FIGS Farm Upperclass)
Came in for relief and displayed a quick arm with life on the fastball. Mostly was 84-85 mph, touching 86 while mixing in a 74-76 curveball with tighter spin. Generated multiple swings and misses.
2021 MIF Riley Kelton (Under Armour Legends)
Showed above average range with a quick release defensively up the middle defensively. Barreled one up and drove a ball down the left field line for a standup double.
2022 IF Johnnie Lopez (FTB)
The uncommitted infielder had a strong weekend offensively as he hammered the ball deep into the gaps multiple times for extra base hits. Crushed another one into the left-center field gap for a standup double.
2022 C/IF Fernando Hernandez (Action Force Baseball)
Physical frame, ball really jumps off the bat. Found the barrel often throughout the day, driving a ball to left field for a single during one of his at-bats. South Florida commit.
2024 IF Brandon Sowers (Power Baseball)
Shows a balanced approach and looks to utilize his lower half at the plate. Works the count and fouls off tough pitches with two strikes. Had a broken bat single to left field.
