OBA Media Day Standouts Part 2

OBA Media Day Standouts Part 2

This past week Ostinger Baseball Academy held their 2021 Media Day which was exclusively covered by Diamond Prospect Media. OBA 2022, OBA 2023, OBA 2024, and OBA 16u went through a pro-style workout for their position players followed by bullpens for pitchers. There were many players who stood out amongst our scouting staff throughout the day not only from a committed perspective, but many uncommitted players who should be closely followed throughout the summer as well.

Below is Part 2 of 2 of our 2021 OBA Media Day Standouts which includes a breakdown of the player listed. Please give us a follow on our social media platforms listed below as we post content with highlights, clips, and announcements on past and upcoming events.

2022 IF Ethan Petry (Cypress Creek HS, FL)
South Carolina commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds on a tall, physical frame with a developed lower half and natural strength. The ball explodes off that bat for Petry as he shows big time present power and loud, hard contact. Registered a 101 mph exit velocity during batting practice with multiple others being driven off the bat at 95+ that were laced into the gaps, to the wall, over the wall, etc. Topped out at 90 mph on his throws across the diamond. Suited to drive in dozens of runs at the heart of the lineup and can change the game with one swing. Strong offensive follow and a draft prospect to monitor over the next year.

2024 C Carlos Morales (Durant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 170 pounds with a strong lower half. Morales put on quite an impressive couple rounds of batting practice as he drove the ball deep into the gaps for hard line drives that should easily translate to extra base hits. Really swings with intent and registered the top exit velocity on the day at 102 mph. Fast hands and really can turn on the ball and send it a long way. Also displayed an above average arm from behind the plate with accurate throws and pop times ranging from 1.94-2.01 seconds. Very strong follow.

2024 OF/RHP Blaine Rowland (Durant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds with a strong lower half on a tall, physical, athletic frame. Showed off big time arm strength as he topped out at 92 mph on his throws from the outfield during defensive drills that showed plenty of carry. Offensively, he created lots of loud, hard contact throughout his batting practice rounds, driving the ball with intent and registering a top exit velocity of 94 mph. On the mound he sat 83-85 mph with his fastball, touching 86 along with an above average cutter that he threw for strikes. Rowland shows lots of upside and will be a strong follow for his class this summer.

2024 IF/RHP Akhil Nimmala (Strawberry Crest HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Tall, projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with room to fill out which should translate to jumps in power offensively. Created plenty of loud, hard contact during both of his batting practice rounds, registering a top exit velocity of 96 mph. Swing can get a little long at times, but when he stays direct to the ball it jumps off the bat. Displayed some present pull side pop as well. Topped out at 84 mph on his throws across the diamond during defensive drills.

2022 RHP Aidan Kelley (George Jenkins HS, FL)
Jacksonville commit. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds on a taller frame with present physicality. Quick arm and looks to work low in the zone. Featured a fastball that sat 87-89 mph, touching 90 with riding life while mixing in a 78-81 mph changeup that displayed fade during his bullpen. Showed a feel for the breaking ball too at 74-75 mph. There’s more in there.

2022 RHP Chase Chappell (Bloomingdale HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds on a projectable frame, room to fill out. During his bullpen he sat 87-89 mph with his fastball while mixing in a slider at 75-77 mph with 2600+ RPMs that showed late bite, tailing action. Also showed a 78-79 mph changeup. There’s much more to come and the frame really projects. An uptick in velocity is coming soon. Strong follow.

2022 RHP Caden Kok (Winter Haven HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with a stronger lower half. Quick arm, works out in front. Featured a fastball that sat 86-88 mph with 2400+ RPMs, working down in the zone. Also mixed in an 81-82 mph changeup and a 76-77 mph slider with depth and tailing action. Arm to follow this summer that can make an uptick in velocity fairly soon.

2023 OF/RHP Hamilton Lee (Plant HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-8, 160 pounds on a compact, athletic frame. Above average runner who clocked in at 6.92 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Quick hands offensively from the right side that produced multiple line drives throughout his batting practice rounds, registering a top exit velocity of 90 mph. Topped out at 81 mph on his throws from the outfield that were accurate to the bag.

2023 OF/RHP Alex Philpott (Newsome HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-4, 178 pounds on a long, lean frame that really projects to fill out and add strength. Displayed strong two-way potential. Started off the day by showing above average speed for his frame, clocking in at 6.95 seconds. From the outfield he had a loose, quick arm and topped out at 89 mph on his throws that showed carry. Offensively, he barreled it up multiple times for loud, hard contact which included a top exit velocity of 94 mph. There’s more power to come too. On the mound, he sat 84-86 mph with his fastball with more in the tank. Philpott will continue to make multiple jumps in his overall game.

2023 IF/RHP Jayden Vazquez (Jefferson HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 170 pounds on a lean frame that projects to fill out. Really stood out offensively where he had two strong rounds of batting practice, seeming to barrel it up every time for consistent, hard contact into the gaps. Registered a top exit velocity of 91 mph, there’s more power in there too.
