Florida Burn 2023 Summer Tryout Standouts Part 1

On January 14th and 15th the Florida Burn held their 2023 Summer Tryout for position players which took place at Venice HS in Venice, FL. Players went through a pro-style workout which included 60 yard dashes, infield/outfield, and batting practice. With over 200 players in attendance over the two days ranging from the 2024-2027 classes, there was plenty of talent all over the field. 

Below is Part 1 of the standouts highlighted from the event that made an impact on our scouting staff and will be strong follows moving forward as we head into the spring season.

2024 MIF Ryder Woodson (Gulf Coast HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Put together one of the best pairs of batting practice rounds at the event, barreling everything up and driving the ball all over the field. Worked gap-to-gap and stayed balanced throughout from the right side. Frame projects to see jumps in power. Also topped out at 89 mph across the diamond. Strong follow this spring.

2024 OF Kyle Bechtold (Venice HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Stood out offensively during the event and will be strong follow this spring season. Stays quick and direct to the ball, lacing pitches gap-to-gap for plenty of hard line drives from the right side. Confident approach with loose, quick hands. Top of the order bat.

2025 1B/LHP Jackson Lucas (Venice HS, FL) 

Uncommitted. Two-way prospect who stood out this past summer and fall took a pair of strong rounds of batting practice at the event. While showing the ability to go the other way, he demonstrated present pull side pop as well. Fast, loose hands with a level to uphill path through the zone from the left side. Low 80s on the bump, above average defender around the bag. Strong follow.

2025 OF Nicholas Dunn (Venice HS, FL) 

Uncommitted. Showed big time offensive potential. Present strength throughout and the ball really jumps off the bat from the right side. Fast, strong hands through the zone that find the barrel consistently for loud, hard contact. Along with multiple hard hit line drives deep into the gaps, he put several pitches over the left, left-center field wall during his batting practice rounds. Impact bat that can change a game. Very strong follow.

2025 IF Will Bavaro (Park Vista HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic frame that projects to continue to fill out, become more physical. Continued to impress offensively as he not only flashed pull side pop by putting one over the left-center field wall, but produced multiple hard hit line drives during batting practice. The hands are quick through the zone with present athleticism from the right side. Strong follow. 

2025 MIF David Dubrule (Venice HS, FL)

West Point commit. Lean frame with above average instincts. Defensively he showed off his quick hands and smooth footwork up the middle, fielding the ball with confidence and accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively he stays quick and direct to the ball from the right side, driving the ball gap-to-gap. Expect to see jumps in power as well. Strong follow. 

2026 IF Cole Travers (Sebring HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Physical, athletic frame with strong hands through the zone. Was an offensive standout at the event, driving the ball all over the field for loud, hard contact from the right side. Finds the barrel often and displays the ability to drive the ball with intent to the gaps. Present power to the pull side with more to come. Strong follow.

2026 1B Darien Kester (Barron Collier HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Compact frame with some present physicality throughout. Stood out from an offensive standpoint as he displayed present juice from the right side during batting practice. Implemented his lower half and drove the ball with intent. Creates hard contact and produced several line drives deep into the gaps. Strong follow. 

2026 C/3B Jonathan Hernandez-Carr (Barron Collier HS, FL) 

Uncommitted. Athletic, lean frame that will continue to become more physical which will translate to jumps in power offensively. Displayed above average bat-to-ball skills during his rounds of batting practice, driving the ball with intent. Really gets into his lower half and showed some present pop. Strong follow. 

2027 MIF Hudson Sapp (Buchholz HS, FL)

Shows all the makings of being a difference maker at the next level as he plays with above average instincts, will continue to see jumps in his overall game. Offensively the hands are quick through the zone not only finding the barrel often for hard hit line drives, but shows some pull side pop as well. More gap-to-gap power to come. Advanced, athletic actions up the middle as he fields the ball under control with a strong arm across the diamond that tops out at 80 mph. Ranges freely to his left and right. Above average runner as well. Strong follow.

2027 SS Jaxson Vassallo (IMG Academy, FL)

Lean frame with plenty of room to fill out, become more physical. Stood out offensively as he showed his ability to use all of the field, working gap-to-gap. Fluid swing from the right side and stays balanced throughout his swing. Young bat to follow moving forward. 

2027 OF/1B Kai Orr (Glynn Academy, GA)

Athletic frame that will continue to fill out. Stood out from the left side of the plate as he showed explosive hands and did a good job of leading with the bottom hand. Some present feel for the barrel and consistently drove the ball back up the middle and to the pull side. Expect to see multiple jumps in power in the future. Strong follow.
