CBU Summer 2023 Tryouts Standouts Part 2

From December January 6th-8th, CBU held their Summer 2023 Tryouts which took place at the 5-Plex Complex in Fort Myers, FL. Over the three-day stretch players went through a pro-style workout and game action (with bullpens occurring earlier in the week) With over 350 players in attendance ranging from the 2024-2027 classes, there was tons of talent all over the field. 

Below is Part 2 of the standouts highlighted from the event that made an impact on our scouting staff and will be strong follows moving forward as we head into the spring season. Part 1 is HERE

2024s

2024 MIF Maurice Days Jr. (A3 Academy, FL) 

Uncommitted. Athletic frame with a noticeably more physical lower half. Shows advanced, athletic actions up the middle and fields the ball with confidence. Accurate arm topping out at 85 mph. Offensively he displayed above average bat speed from the right side with the ability to drive the ball all over the field during his batting practice rounds. Natural instincts. Strong follow. 

2024 C Dylan Murphy (Martin County HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Present strength throughout, knows how to generate power. Displayed an above average arm from behind the plate, registering pop times in the 1.94-2.04 seconds range. Throws had plenty of carry. Fast, strong hands through the zone from the right side offensively that allows him to create hard contact. Showed up during game action as well when he not only gunned down a base runner, but laced a ball into the outfield for a base hit. Impact backstop that should be closely followed this spring. 

2024 OF Julian Irizarry (Westminster Academy, FL)

Pittsburgh commit. Lean, strong muscle with present athleticism. Still room to fill out which will translate to jumps in his overall game. Offensively from the left side he displayed loose, quick hands that found the barrel multiple times for loud, hard contact during his batting practice rounds. Demonstrated present pull side juice with a few pitches going deep over the right field wall. Throws from the outfield are on line and accurate to the bag. Strong follow.

2024 RHP Lazaro Collera (Florida Christian, FL)

Miami commit. Big, physical frame that creates an impending presence on the mound. Quick arm that creates some downhill action. During his bullpen he featured a heavy fastball that sat 88-90 mph with life (been up to 93) with some feel for the slider in the mid 70s. Power arm that will be a strong follow moving forward. 

2024 IF Carter McCormick (Somerset Academy, FL)

Uncommitted. Tall, physical frame. Really stood out from an offensive standpoint as the present power is there. Put on an impressive couple rounds of batting practice, barreling up multiple pitches for loud, hard contact. Ball really jumped off the bat. Sent a couple pitches deep over the left field wall. Suited to drive in runs in the heart of the order. Strong follow. 

2025s

2025 C Jacob Estrada (Bonita HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Athletic frame with some present physicality. Stood out offensively with a pair of loud rounds off batting practice showing potential power to all fields. Produced plenty of line drives deep into the gaps. Ball came off the bat hard, registering a top exit velocity of 93 mph. Strong follow.

2025 RHP Alex Arciniegas (A3 Academy, FL)

Uncommitted. Taller frame with a noticeably stronger lower half. Simple windup with a quick arm. Featured a fastball that sat 85-87 mph during his bullpen. Late life on the fastball. More in there. Will continue to be a strong follow heading into the spring.

2025 RHP/IF Jonathan Lopez (Taravella HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean, projectable frame that will continue to fill out, become more physical. Put together an explosive bullpen as the ball really jumped out of his hand with more to come. Topped out at 89 mph with his fastball that mostly sat 87-88. Can swing it too from the left side. Strong follow.

2026s

2026 OF Dillon Knight (Strawberry Crest HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Present strength throughout, notably in the lower half. Really stood out offensively as everything jumped off the bat during his batting practice rounds. Fast, strong hands through the zone that produced hard line drives into the gaps with pull side juice. Registered a top exit velocity of 97 mph. Also topped out at 85 mph on his throws from right field during defensive drills. Clocked in at 6.80 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Very strong follow.

2026 LHP Ben Burke (Jesuit HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Compact, athletic frame. Will continue to become more physical. Displayed a loose, quick arm during his bullpen. Stays balanced and repeats well. Fastball mostly sat 77-78 mph, touching 79 with more to come. Also showed a feel for his breaking stuff as well. 

2026 OF Riley Zinober (Berkeley Prep, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean, athletic frame. Will continue to fill out. Stood out all throughout the pro-style workout. Displayed quick hands with a simple approach from the right side during his batting practice rounds. Lots of line drives back up the middle and into left-center field. Also showed off an above average arm that topped out at 85 mph on his throws from right field. Strong follow. 

2026 RHP Ben O’ Brien (Berkeley Prep, FL)

Uncommitted. Lean frame, more physicality to come. During his bullpen he showed a quick arm, present athleticism. Fastball mostly sat 80-82 mph with life. Look for him to continue to make overall jumps.

2026 C Joey Lawson (Bishop Verot HS, FL)

Uncommitted. Big frame with present strength throughout. Stood out offensively as he showed off some real power potential as he sent multiple pitches deep to the left field wall during batting practice. Creates loud, hard contact and registered a top exit velocity of 90 mph. 

2027s

2027 C Jackson Taylor (N/A, FL)

Athletic frame with present physicality. Stood out all throughout the weekend. Defensively he showed off an above average arm on his throws down to the bag, registering a best pop time of 1.97 seconds. Also put together a strong showing in his batting practice rounds, driving multiple pitches to the wall. Lots to like from the young backstop moving forward. 

2027 LHP Gavin Ruvalcaba (N/A, FL)

Athletic, projectable frame with more to come. Quick arm. Shows plenty of upside on the mound, running his fastball up to 79 mph. Mostly pitched at 76-78 along with some feel for the breaking ball. Expect to see more additional jumps in the near future.
