5 Star National Fall Tryouts Standouts Part 1

This past weekend 5 Star National held their annual Fall Tryouts at 121 Financial Ballpark (home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp) with players ranging from the 2021-2024 classes from all over in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, and more. Players participated in a two-day event which consisted of pro-style workouts on Saturday and live games on Sunday.

With so many players in attendance, our scouting staff looked to find and identify some of the top standouts from over the weekend. Below is Part 1 of the 5 Star National 2020 Fall Tryouts Standouts which includes a brief player breakdown on each.

2022 1B/RHP Hunter Russell (Episcopal HS, FL)
Congratulations to Hunter who committed to Notre Dame today. The recent Irish commit showed off his two way skills both offensively and on the hill. Displayed present pull side juice from the left side, generating backspin. Ball really jumps off the bat when he squares it up. On the mound he has a quick, easy working arm that features a fastball in the mid 80s.

2022 C Joey Daniels (Steinbrenner HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds on a physical, durable frame. Made lots of loud, hard contact during batting practice and drove the ball with intent back up the middle and to the pull side. Accurate arm with carry on his throws behind the plate. Also has a fastball that sits in the low to mid 80s. Daniels is a middle of the order type hitter.

2022 MIF Tanner Knowles (Perry HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Started off the day by displaying above average speed, clocking in at 6.60 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Offensively, he ripped the ball back up the middle multiple times during batting practice. Quick hands through the zone.

2022 OF Elijah Banks (Riverdale HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Tall, projectable frame with plenty of room to fill out standing at 6-foot-2, 155 pounds. Clocked in at 6.89 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Stood out offensively during batting practice when he barreled it up for hard hit line drives into the gaps. More power to come. Also shows an above average arm, topping out at 88 mph on his throws to home which had plenty of carry. Strong follow with multiple above average tools.

2023 OF/MIF Reid Harvey (Thomas County Central HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2 on a physical, athletic frame. Displayed an above average arm both from the outfield and infield as he topped out at 84 and 83 mph respectively. His strong lower half generates additional power offensively with loud, hard contact. Ball really jumps off the bat.

2023 OF Drew Burress (Houston County HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 175 pounds on a compact, athletic frame. Burress continued to show why he is one of the top uncommitted bats in his class nationally as he displayed loose, quick hands through the zone and really worked in rhythm offensively during batting practice, peppering the gaps with hard hit line drives. This was seen during the game when he laced one into left field for a line drive single. Easy bat speed with a confident approach. Strong national follow.

2023 OF Andrew Preyna (Veterans HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-7, 135 pounds on a lean frame. Displayed quick hands through the zone during gameplay as he drove a ball into left field for a line drive single. Above average runner who got a good jump and stole second base during the next sequence of pitches.

2024 OF Camdon Frier (Suwannee HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 165 pounds on a lean, projectable frame. Very high level athlete. Showed off his plus speed to start the day when he clocked in at 6.68 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Defensively, he shows above average range with a strong arm from the outfield with accuracy, topping out at 85 mph. Frier than impressed during batting practice as he swung with intent, driving the ball hard into the gaps. Great bloodlines, father is a former NFL WR and 1993 FSU national champion. Very strong follow.

2024 MIF Adrian Areizaga (PR)
Uncommitted. Long, loose, lean frame with present athleticism standing at 6-foot-1, 155 pounds. Crushed an absolute no-doubter home run past the first row of cars in the parking lot during the game. Present pull side power and generates additional juice using his hips and legs to get leverage to drive the ball deep. Easy actions up the middle. Very strong follow that will make big jumps as he continues to mature.

2024 RHP/IF Kolt Myers (Bartram Trail HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Athletic, projectable frame standing at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Was impressive during his outing, running his fastball up to 84 mph. Sat mostly 81-83 and generated lots of swings and misses while mixing in a 72-73 mph slider. Quick arm with a frame that projects for plenty more velocity to come. Present athleticism and can really swing it as well from the right side. Great bloodlines as well, son of former World Series champion with the Philadelphia Phillies, RHP Brett Myers. Strong follow.

2024 C Hunter Carns (First Coast HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 155 pounds on an athletic frame that projects for additional power offensively as he continues to fill out. During gameplay he absolutely smoked a ball deep down the left field line for an easy standup double. Above average bat speed with a present feel for the barrel. Strong arm behind the plate, topping out at 78 mph with pop times in the 1.97-2.03 seconds range.

2024 LHP/1B Matt Hoag (Ponte Vedra HS, FL)
Uncommitted. Tall, projectable frame standing at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. On the mound he displayed a fastball that sat 82-83 mph with arm side run, mixing in a 62-64 mph curveball. Generated multiple swings and misses. Breaking ball sweeps across the plate and buries into right handed hitters. More in the tank. Offensively, he got a hold of one from the left side during gameplay and drove a ball deep into centerfield for an RBI single.

2024 RHP Caden Kessler (Effingham County HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 148 pounds on a lean frame with plenty of room to fill out. Was electric in his outing on the mound as he displayed a very quick arm and ran his fastball up to 86 mph. Lots of life and mostly sat 82-84 in his inning of work,. Also mixed in a 67-68 mph curveball with depth. There’s plenty more to come velocity wise and Kessler should be a very strong follow moving forward.

2024 1B Conner Hutto (Valwood HS, GA)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds on a big, strong, durable frame. Stood out offensively during batting practice where he showed big power potential, driving several deep to the pull side. The ball really comes off the bat hard and can go a long way when he squares it up. Displayed solid actions around the bag at first.
